Re: The frustrations of the GPU market

in Milliways
Looking at their D3D9 driver performance, I would stick with my Nvidia 10 series still. The Intel driver for Xe GPUs doesn't have D3D9 performance at all. It uses d3d9on12. But you can also try dxvk or dgvoodoo2. I think these are probably good enough for most people considering those old games …

Re: zeckensack's Glide wrapper - how did it fare?

in Milliways
It's probably the best Glide Wrapper circa 2005. It's highly optimized and is designed to work across DirectX 7-9 level cards. It has feature settings to get the most from each generation. It will use the hardware palletized texture support of GeForce FX. And it's primarily for Win98 through XP.

Re: Oldish Acer Veriton Bios Update Help

in Milliways
Does it possibly have a jumper to enable / disable access to more bios settings? I have a newer Veriton based on Haswell and its bios is not limited like your image. The Intel boot agent is a separate thing for configuring network booting.

Re: S3 Savage 2000 64MB - Any Special Uses for 64MB?

Savage 2000 is good for Unreal, UT99 and Quake 1/2/3. Anything else is going to be hit or miss. The drivers are quite poor. But for those games it should be significantly faster than Savage 4. The Savage 2000 has about double the fillrate. It's a bit like comparing a TNT1/2 to a GeForce 256. Or a …

Re: Intel arc and d3d9

in Milliways
I used to have a Surface Pro 4 with the i7, meaning it had the speedier Intel Iris 540 IGP with EDRAM. I played some D3D9 games on it and it seemed to do well enough considering its 15-25W power limit for everything. It is interesting to see them apparently abandoning all their previous work on D3D9 …

Re: ATI 9100 or not?

It has interesting error diffusion 16-bit dithering. A Radeon 9600 is definitely a superior card though. Truform is really of questionable value because few games used it and with those that did you usually need to compare screenshots to notice the difference.

Re: 8 vs 12mb Voodoo 2 performance

Yeah even a 12MB Voodoo2 is not ideal for the Unreal games and Quake 3. I vaguely remember people saying that Diablo 2 is quite demanding on Voodoo 2 cards. Voodoo2 12MB has problems in some game areas with the expansion pack's optional 800x600. Single digit framerate. I think 800x600 causes more …
