Re: What game are you playing now?

in Milliways
Tex Murphy Tesla Effect. Entertaining. Just like their old games. I like the casual mode because I am a lazy adventurer. Played a bunch of Sin Wages of Sin but got burned out on that. I've also been working on Homeworld 2 on and off. I get addicted to these sorts of strategy games, but I really …

I've watched the Journeyman Project series on YouTube. Interesting games. The comic relief Arthur AI that everyone thinks is hilarious is grating to me though. 🤣

Re: Has anyone here built a Kaveri box?

i3 4330 also has 4MB L3, a much better IGP, AVX, AVX2, FMA3, and AESNI. The L3 boost benefits the IGP, plus it is a fully enabled Haswell GPU AFAIK. Pentium is quite gimped. I am curious to see what Intel will do for an IGP in their 14nm CPUs. What I really want to see is EDRAM or stacked DRAM on …

I cant even figure out how to use the torch edit: its only in wages of sin works with amd gfx and with the included nglide (with the gog version) Orly! I haven't played the original game in awhile. Did beat it a year ago or so. I did get around to testing the Athlon flashlight (AKA TORCH) fix with …

Re: Has anyone here built a Kaveri box?

I like the Core i3 4330. It has world class single-thread performance and that is still maybe the most useful metric, plus it is extremely power efficient. It has the full GPU enabled. The CPU part will just dust Kaveri. They are also around $50 cheaper than Kaveri A10 7850.

Re: Has anyone here built a Kaveri box?

I'd wait and see what Intel does next. I think Kaveri is quite uninteresting. Its GPU is horribly bandwidth limited and the CPU is junk. It's too expensive. AMD APUs will forever be budget boredom unless they can figure out how to get more memory bandwidth to them as Intel did with the EDRAM. DDR4 …

Good game, I should play the expansion someday! Anyone play the ill-fated Sin Episodes? It could have been pretty good. Yup I have beaten Sin Episodes a few times. I liked it. Ritual made decent games with spirit. Elite Force 2 and FAKK are fun too. Sin always makes me think Half Life combined with …

Re: Sin and Athlon - no flashlight

I disassembled the Athlon setup once I figured out the CPU was the issue and I didn't find the possible 3dnow solution until this afternoon so I'm probably not going to test it. I just posted for posterity. Future web searches et al. 😀

Sin and Athlon - no flashlight

in Windows
There's something wrong with Sin: Wages of Sin's 3Dnow support when run on Athlon and it breaks the flashlight projection. Disabling 3Dnow is supposed to fix it but I haven't tested it. vid_checkamd 0 Or just use an Intel CPU. The add-on pack has a lot of darkness so a broken flashlight is a big …
