Does anyone know of a simple Windows graphics benchmark that will do a screen fill test and saturate the bus the graphics card is attached to? Something like vspeed for DOS maybe. I am wondering just what PCI performance he is getting.

I just remembered something I don't like about the original Audigy card. I have a SB0090 Audigy Platinum. When it is in headphone mode, there is quite audible hiss on the output. This isn't the case with Audigy 2 ZS or Audigy 4. Only an issue if you're a headphone user.

Yeah on Audigy 2 / 4 / X-Fi there is the bit accurate mode that bypasses the DSP. It's not pertinent for gaming though really... X-Fi drivers are ok these days. Unreal can use UTGLR too. OldUnreal.com can set you up with that. Recent versions don't seem to work with 9x though. I would also try an older driver. Maybe a version from a few months after the game's release. ATI OpenGL doesn't necessarily get better with time. Application fixes seem to be lost sometimes or new bugs break old games.

With XP/Vista/7/8 you can use the DanielK Audigy Support Pack 4.5 and that supports even the OEM Audigy cards. There is even a DanielK pack for the cheapo "P17X" boards that don't have a EMU10K2 DSP.

Emachines m680l5 is 1280x800 native. That was my first widescreen experience and boy was that a pain with games back then. I still have that notebook. It is too beat up to sell but it is still a decent email / web browser. It is maxed out with 2GB RAM and an Athlon 64 3400+.
