Re: VirtualPC 2007 and Old Games

in PC Emulation
Sometimes I can get it to scale when I switch it to full screen. It's a strange thing. It won't always do it. You might need to start it windowed and then Alt+Enter, or maybe have it start in full screen. Not sure.

Re: Geforce 2 ultra

hmmm, yea like 5u3 said, VIA MVP3 doesn't like AGP cards that use lots of power or try to fully use the AGP standard. You will probably have issues with it in some games. 3D may not work at all, random reboots, BSODs... Those SS7 boards had terrible AGP compatibility and performance. In my …

Re: USB to ISA

in PC Emulation
Yeah I'd imagine it's meant for more industrial-style hardware. Custom interface boards and such.... Just like how lots of people think serial ports aren't used anymore (ha!), I'm sure there are very expensive ISA cards out there still in use.

Re: Suggestion for a old notebook/laptop for games

in PC Emulation
If it has a VIA chipset, it almost certainly has a VIA southbridge. But yea, it only works with the older VIA chipsets like MVP3/4 and KT133/A I believe. You need a VIA 686A, 686B, or VT8231 southbridge. You'll find MVP3/4 chipsets in K6 laptops. MVP3/4 are actually a mobile chipsets. KM133 is the …

Re: Suggestion for a old notebook/laptop for games

Just find a laptop on ebay with a P3 in it and maybe a ATI Rage 128 Mobility. Perhaps even look for something with a GeForce 2 Go or Mobility Radeon, depending on what you want to play. Of course, it'll need a slow down app for lots of DOS games, but it will be perfect for Windows 98 era gaming. …

My DOS version cd.id is the same. The game also gives build info when u start it. It might actually be reporting the info from that cd.id file.

Re: Putting a modern hard drive in an old Aptiva

Look up the jumper settings. I've never personally messed with limiting a drive like that though. If there aren't any jumpers to do it and the system won't finish POSTing with it in, you will just need a controller card. You should get a controller anyway because 1) they are cheap 2) they are fast …

Re: Win 95 + browser

in Windows
IE 5.5 is probably the fastest option. And it will work pretty well. It's probably a scary exploit disaster warning zone though. I use it occasionally without much issue on my retro-building excursions. It's the newest IE that will work on Win95.

Re: The All-in-One Retro PC

Well, Voodoo3 and Voodoo5 give you better image quality. Especially on the 2D side of things because not only do you not need the pass-through, but V3 and V5 are excellent 2D cards. Voodoo5 also has anti-aliasing for Glide games if you want that, which is quite nice. Voodoo5 also can do 32-bit color …

Re: Celeron 1.7GHz for all-in-one retro system?

in PC Emulation
I have a Upgradeware Slot-T adapter for using a P-IIIS server Tualatin on a 440BX-based Abit BF6. Works great. I also have the Powerleap adapter and it works too. The Powerleap adapter is a lot different though in that it has the voltage regulation onboard, meaning you can't change CPU voltage in …
