Re: Windows Me - "Misunderstood Edition"

I had ME. Still have it, actually. On my machine at the time it was so slow and I was annoyed at the lack of real DOS and little things like not being able to hold shift to restart Windows only (not the whole machine) and other things that just made the thing seem clunky and bogged it down. Went …

Re: ScummVM Surprising MIDI Emulation

I recommend playing AGI games in ScummVM with the IBM PCjr music device for Tandy sound. Should be the default setting, though. The sounds won't sound right in MIDI, especially for the noise channel. That's my preference, anyway. Also, for DOSBox you don't necessarily have to set the the DOSBox …

Small batch launcher, CHOICE, and TIMEOUT

I'm trying to create a small batch launcher for a game. I want it to hold for 2 seconds and wait for user input (any key) to enter the game setup otherwise it simply launches the game. If the user does press a key, it will enter the game setup and then go back to the root "menu" with the 2 second …

Re: Run Arena and Daggerfall on Win 7 64 bit

The versions from the Elder Scrolls Anthology release a couple years back use DOSBox, but the versions freely available on Bethesda's website are just raw files without DOSBox. You'll need to get DOSBox and run it with that.

KQ6 new ending with LIGHTSABERS! (Playing with SCI)

Results with messing around with graphics, sounds, and scripts in King's Quest 6 with the aid of Troflip's latest version of SCI Companion . Created an alternate ending. Everything is in-game, no post production save for upscaling and aspect ratio correction with Virtual Dub. Enjoy. https://www. …

Re: Most disappointing games?

I've never had so much fun as a few years back when I discovered that my assumptions of Serious Sam being a cheap knock-off cash-grab copy attempt at Duke Nukem were completely wrong and played TFE HD and had a blast. I played it with my dad and uncle in co-op a lot. Just recently my dad bought it …

Re: Duke Nukem IP Ownership Change

Here's the story with the Duke Nukem takedown. Gearbox still owns Duke Nukem. More than ever now. This is what happened. 3D Realms previously retained the rights to all Duke Nukem games before DNF. They lost these rights because they tried making a new 3rd person isometric action Duke Nukem title …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I'm in a Star Wars craze at the moment, so I've gone back and started playing The Old Republic again (first time since the beta). My sister just really got into Star Wars with watching the origina trilogy, the prequels, and Ep7 last night so we're going to play together. I've been going through the …

Re: Do the old retail Source games need steam.

Hmm, never heard that. According to Wikipedia the first Steam-requiring game was Half-Life 2. But that's Wikipedia. It does say on the Condition Zero entry that they used Steam to their advantage to control multiplayer cheating, but it still may have not needed to use Steam. It seems strange to …

Re: Do the old retail Source games need steam.

The old OLD retail releases don't need Steam at all (that is, the WON releases). Everything with the Sierra logo (except HL2) doesn't need Steam. But the CD Keys of all of them will unlock the HL Anthology (HL1, OppFor, BS, CS, TFC, Ricochet, etc) on Steam if you want, no matter what game it is. …

Re: Favourite / best FPS?

Few of my top faves. Half-Life series (if I had to pick one, I'd say HL2) Unreal 1 Dark Forces Duke Nukem 3D Serious Sam 3 Serious Sam TFE HD Goldeneye Elite Force I wouldn't put them on the list since they aren't really true FPS games, but I really enjoyed Oblivion and Skyrim. I'm not sure which I …
