Re: Pentium 200 MMX vs Pentium III 500 MHz - Any reason to NOT use the faster hardware?

Will it be able to toggle all the registers and caches being an Overdrive? I expect the multiplier being locked at least? Oh, I just realized that it's an overdrive. Not sure about all the test registers in that case. Furthermore, if it's an OEM system, it should be checked if the BIOS allows …

Re: Pentium 200 MMX vs Pentium III 500 MHz - Any reason to NOT use the faster hardware?

Sell Pentium MMX200 MHz and use the money to buy parts for PIII. Speed sensitive DOS games will run too fast on it anyway and it's too slow for Windows 98. Depends on how speed sensitive the game is. A Pentium MMX can easily be slowed down to 486 and 386 speeds using SetMul for toggling the test …

Re: Best LCD for Windows 98 gaming?

Dell 19" monitors work pretty well for all my retro needs. 5:4 but there are basically no 4:3 LCDs out there, and the stretch is not really noticable. Many late Win98 games support 1280x1024 anyway. And for the games that don't support 1280x1024, but can use 1280x960, you can choose aspect ratio …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Finished playing through Sigil. I ended up enjoying it more than the official episode 4. There were some irritating level design elements like too many narrow ledges placed above hazardous floors (lava, acid etc.) but it was still fun to play overall. Some of the areas were a bit too dark, and I had …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Finished Ultimate Doom. This was the first time that I actually played through the fourth episode. Not impressed at all. The levels feels too gimmicky, and it's just not fun to navigate through these messy areas. Furthermore, I don't like how the developers casually throw Cyberdemons at you like …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I'm very familiar with the base game and the second expansion, just never got around trying the first expansion for some reason. But very glad to hear it also has better story than the base game. Been a while since I last played it, but I think the first expansion ended up being my favorite overall …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I think I need to start a full playthrough of Neverwinter Nights on the side to force myself slow down with C&C and also finally check out the first expansion for NWN that I've never played. In terms of story, both Neverwinter Nights expansion packs are better than the original. Gameplay is similar …

Re: Final Fantasy VII AWE Ripping

interesting, also I think that the PC version soundtrack just wasn't as "polished" as the ps1 version (overall) regardless of the soundcards used, for the XG version there are plenty of tracks that I really prefer over PS1 versions but those that I like less have about the same flaws regardless of …
