well fans back then weren't as noisy as they are now... bearings age, same goes for hdds, they weren't the same screaming platters they are today ^^ so it isn't even that accurate. Any hard drive made before fluid bearings (mid 2000s) became commonplace will not see the inside of one of my builds . …

My builds are usually period correct except for hard drives. Late 90s/early 2000s small hard drives (think stuff in the 2 to 15GB range) aren't easy to find around here while 40GB WD Caviar and Seagate Barracuda drives from P4s are everywhere, so I've got like 5 machines of that era with 40GB drives …

Willamette P4s are weird, man. I have a Dell OptiPlex GX400 and somehow upgrading the CPU from 1.4GHz to 1.8GHz and installing proper chipset drivers made it feel 3x more responsive running Windows 2000. 1.4Ghz Williamette to Northwood ? Its even more worse if one has SD-RAM PC133 P4 mainboard.. …

I have a working Gateway Slot 1 P3 motherboard with 384MB of RAM and currently a 650MHz CPU, so if your CPU is Slot 1 you'd be able to use it easily. I upgraded the machine it came out of to a Socket 370 board with 512MB of RAM and a 1GHz P3.
