The guy that sold them to me had a few Apple II, and sold many parts as spares. I have a lot of 1MB simms, it's just that I wanted to understand why they didn't work. Guess problem solved: the slow timings indicate the use for slow machines like 8080/86.

Most accessed to like this. Others in the basement in cardboard boxes, stored vertically in antistatic bags + some cushioning layer between and under. Another few in shoe boxes. Vid cards I don't have many so a big shoe box is enough. Cpus in plastic boxes in smaller cardboard boxes

Red wires are straight traces and those are correct. White follows a trace that was like that before removing fake chips.

Does 3DBench 1.0 get affected by L2 cache? I don't think this can be solved easily. If nothing turns up I'm going to use this board to test cpus dead or alive with no expecttions. Basically I'm out looking for another board. Instead of X99 boards from China they should produce up to 486 motherbaords …

I went through the cache socket joints again and resoldered the ones that looked meh. Now it randomly boots to "128KB cache" and stops, or "Write-back cache enabled" (will correct as I don't remember the exact line). Testing with Cachechk it outputs: "This machine seems to have one cache!? [read] !! …

Tried Bios for Rev 2.x and it worked both perfectly. Main difference between rev 3 and 2.x is that rev 3 has a soldered QFP with an AMD 386 40mhz.

What happens if one of the chips has an address line broken? Could a broken lane be the culprit? It worked past hd booting, and now only with l2 cache disabled. There is definitely something with cache detection. When cachecheck fails, it ometimes show #1 meg not cached (or failed caching). Tomorrow …
