Re: High Heat 2002

HH2003 came out last year (see http://www.3do.com/highheat/ ). It was NOT, despite the listing of WinXP on the outside of the box, fully XP compliant. Under WinXP, sound card acceleration must be turned down a notch to avoid audio looping and skipping, and USB gaming devices are not recognized. Save …

Re: Jerky motion

If VDMSound set to IRQ 5, which is the one used used by Windows XP legacy sound support, VDM won't work. (I'm always suprised when the legacy sound support works, but sometimes it does.) Set VDMS, and the in-game sound setting to IRQ 7, if you want to use VDMS. In either event, try lowering the in- …

Re: Spycraft help

I got this to run by installing and running the Win95 version in Win95 compatability mode. Make sure to set the desktop to 16 bit color and to turn off the "always on top" function of the taskbar. Also, use 640 x 480 to get full screen.

Re: Game Test Notes: 7th Guest

Thanks. At one time, I had a walkthrough around for this game. I'll look for it. I seem to recall that the microscope puzzle does not not have a set solution, since the initial arrangement always differs. I think the advice of the walkthrough was to keep plugging away. Not the answer you want.

Re: Game Test Notes: 7th Guest

Can you post the saved microscope puzzle. Many years ago, I had advanced to it. My hard drive with the saved games died (a wonderful metallic sound) before I could solve it (assuming I would have ever been able to). Too bad I don't usually back up saved games. I never felt like solving all the …

Re: Game Test Notes: 7th Guest

in DOS
If I had to guess (and I do since I have no clue what I'm talking about), I'd say it sounds like a problem with the sound card's SB emulation. Maybe reconfiguring the sound card, or an updated Win98 driver, would solve the problem. If you want to keep testing, I do have ONE suggestion. Keep the case …

Re: TPPATCH or another patch?

in DOS
128 MB RAM on WinXP is a bit low. I don't want to tell you that more RAM will fix the problem, however, because it might not make a difference.

Re: TPPATCH or another patch?

in DOS
I know this was mentioned in an earlier post, but make sure to use the VDMS update at VDMS 2.04 update It seems to be critical for Jazz Jackrabbit. Also, what are the specs of your system. From what I've read, emulation takes considerable horsepower. For example, I'm running an AMD XP 1700+ with 512 …

Re: TPPATCH or another patch?

in DOS
If the patches aren't working for you (they should, however), you can try a slow down utility. The best one I know of is Cpukiller . The best thing is that you can set it to time out after any period of time. That's great for Jazz Jackrabbit, because you only need it for a short time, until the game …

Re: Jones In the Fast Lane

I just installed Jones In the Fast Lane w/ VDMS. At first I had the freezing problem. I ran setup for JITFL and selected AdLib rather than Soundblaster as the sound device (or maybe visa-versa, my memory is slightly fuzzy), and it worked fine after that (some minor and temporary video glitches from …

Re: Interstate '82

I seem to recall I76 working ok under WinXP if I took the following steps recommended by Activision's website: The game does not recognize the second CD and as such I cannot play. Answer Play an audio track from the second CD. 1) Put the second CD in the drive. 2) Start a CD Audio player, such as …
