Re: Help with the 7th guest on XP

in Windows
The T7G patch runs fine here with ASUS a7v266-e mb, 512K RAM, Audigy Gamer, AMD 1700+ XP processor, GeForce Ti200 vid card. Is the T7G patch the same thing as the Windows interpreter, or are they different?

Re: WinXP vs Win2k....Hmmm..

You mentioned something about using the AMD drivers for some m/b components. Are you sure you need those for XP. XP may have had updated drivers for those components built in. Perhaps XP didn't remove those drivers during your update from W2000. That might be causing some of your problems. You might …

Re: Help with the 7th guest on XP

in Windows
I don't have the 11th Hour, so I haven't tried the Windows interpretor for that game. About the only reason I was interested in the 7th Guest is because, several years ago, I was nearly finished (working on the microscope puzzle) when I heard a horrible grinding noise from the hard drive. I don't …

Re: Help with the 7th guest on XP

in Windows
I've only played a limited amount with the patch, but it seems to fun fine. I haven't noticed any speed issues. However, the cut seens are about the only scenes in T7G where an insanely fast speed might cause a problem. The cut scenes run at the correct speed. As for moving from one point to another …

Re: Help with the 7th guest on XP

in Windows
I found the URL for the patch. The patched game does not need or use VDMSound, but instead uses directx. Make sure to read the readme file in the patch. Try: http://begin2end.gitagrrl.com/downloads/patches/7thguest.zip I've read of a similar patch for the 11th Guest, but I don't own that game, so I …

Re: Help with the 7th guest on XP

in Windows
I'm running t7g using WinXP home and an Audigy Soundcard without problems. One catch. I downloaded a patch for running the program from Win95. I'll need to wait until I'm home (late tonight), but I can email it to anyone who needs it. If I can remember or find the URL that I downloaded it from, I'll …

Re: OPL (AdLib) emulation

I'm not sure if the 2.52 drivers are XP only. I believe they are at ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp20501-21000/SP20920.exe if you wish to check them out. Large download. As for the kX drivers, I haven't tried them. I run some newer games that take advantage of the Audigy's advanced features.

Re: OPL (AdLib) emulation

The problem has a definite relationship to Audigy's drivers. I just upgraded to the 2.53 version of the drivers (as opposed to the 2.52). The sound improved (still somewhat off, but MUCH better), and the speed returned to normal. I'll of course report this to Creative Labs, who will then divert all …

Re: OPL (AdLib) emulation

I'm convinced there's a problem, since MK2 worked ok (save for the joystick emulation) before the update. I'm not sure that its worth much of your time, unless other games have similar problems. If there's any way I can help, let me know, and I'll see what I can do. I can't program, unfortunately.

Re: OPL (AdLib) emulation

I have no problems with running MAME provided that it substituting for a legally owned copy that I can't run properly. Last time I checked, a few months ago, I did have a problem finding the MK2 ROM at a site I felt I could trust connecting with. I'll see if the SNES version shows up at a site I …

Re: OPL (AdLib) emulation

The problem is definitely with the EmuAdlib.dll file, as replacing that file made the sounds normal. Recently, some change in my system has caused the sound and the game to slow down (with or without the 5/02 update). I'm not aware of any system changes that might have caused this. Other games I run …

Re: OPL (AdLib) emulation

I can try to reinstall and then updating everything but the Adlib emu as a verification. That will probably need to wait until at least the weekend. My reason for suspecting the Adlib module is that with the MIDI disabled, I have the same symptoms, i.e., the same "farting" sounds. With the Adlib …

Re: OPL (AdLib) emulation

DOS Cap timer make no difference. Nor does changing frequency of the Adlib, ror selecting a different output device (under the Soundblaster tab of the VDMS Launcher, nor does changing the buffer size, nor does changing the DSP version. The game does not run from CD, so selecting low level CD support …

Re: OPL (AdLib) emulation

Sorry. I followed the posting guidelines in my earlier post(s), and I shorthanded things by referring to that post(s). You can search for my name, or the subject. I know I should do more, but like everybody else here, my time is limited. I've tried the CAP frequency timer change, changing the …

Mortal Kombat 2 and vdms 2.0.4 May 02 update

I had previously posted about problems with VDMSound and the 5/02 update to version 2.0.4. As you may recall, without the update, the sound was ok. With the update, the sound became a series of, for lack of a better description, slow farts having some slight resemblance to the actual sound. At the …
