Re: EXCELGRAPH - ISA Video Display Controller

Seriously cool project. You, sir, are an enthusiast! That goes for your other projects as well...I can't imagine the amount of perspiration that went in to making that stuff. I guess for ISA this is just about the best thing that still makes sense? Or do you have some other ideas waiting in the …

Re: Getting UniPCemu up and running

in PC Emulation
Interesting! Thx for the explanation. It's some kind of bug *somewhere*, but the hunt is still on... The CPU speed indicator (and the startup yellow text, and the configuration menus) do all work. They are visible in the screenshot (in that previous post). The reason why it seems hw related to me is …

Re: Getting UniPCemu up and running

in PC Emulation
Sounds good :D My "64-bit black screen problem" can be considered solved. I just tried building UniPCemu on a different host and it works there just fine. So I'll have to do some comparison to see what that was about. Could be hw related (Intel vs. AMD etc.), but we'll see. I'll report back here, if …

Re: Getting UniPCemu up and running

in PC Emulation
OK, so it's using SDL2 (as expected). I don't know what that hang is about (the switch from SDL1 to SDL2 fixed it for me - also could've been something else entirely). EDIT: I tried using valgrind (to get some nice kcachegrind process diagrams out) but closing the window kills the whole shebang …

Re: Getting UniPCemu up and running

in PC Emulation
I've seen that termination issue before, but it was with SDL1 You can run "ldd ./UniPCemu" to check which libraries it tries to use. I have both SDL1 and SDL2. Of course, the SDL2 keyword *should* ensure it's using SDL2...

Re: Getting UniPCemu up and running

in PC Emulation
Yes that's good advice. Actually I've been bitten by partial rebuilding before, so I've taken the habit to clean up the whole thing and build from scratch if it's feasible. Sometimes it's useful to also check the binaries with the "file" command to see what you're dealing with. What's the …

Re: Getting UniPCemu up and running

in PC Emulation
OK, that's good to hear. So the Linux 64-bit variant should also work, at least in theory :D There might well be a Wine related problem also (as it wasn't exactly perfect with the 32-bit binary). Btw my Wine setup was very plain: Installed via apt, no mods or frontends of any kind, fresh WINEPREFIX …

Re: Getting UniPCemu up and running

in PC Emulation
Thanks, I think I tried it with x64 already at some point but it wasn't recognized as an option. But I'll check that. EDIT: Just tried it and it's as I remembered...but this x64 keyword isn't really needed because gcc spurts out a 64-bit binary by default (since I'm on a 64-bit host). make: *** No …

Re: Getting UniPCemu up and running

in PC Emulation
Hi superfury, what's the status of the x64 ports? Are they supposed to work? I got the native 64-bit Linux binary compiled with a "make linux build SDL2", it runs and configuration menus can be used etc. But when the actual POST is attempted, it just hangs with a black screen (I think I saw it emit …

Re: Clash of the emulators ...

in PC Emulation
Sure. To rephrase you could say the most interesting parts of pros/cons for any emu would be "supports platform xyz" and "runs my appz yay". But it sounds like you were looking for something beyond that, sorry to disappoint. Perhaps the best route of action is just to run them and see what works for …

Re: Clash of the emulators ...

in PC Emulation
Yes, for accuracy those are solid choices. The more obscure ones could be interesting in other ways, however :D There are many previous threads here on Vogons to explore. EDIT: But I don't think there's a list in here that has ALL the PC emulator projects listed is there? Just a hunch, but maybe …

Re: Clash of the emulators ...

in PC Emulation
Selling points? Hmm I'd think in many cases it's just authors "scratching their own itch" and perhaps trying to learn something useful while they're at it, more than anything else. The fact that they happen to serve a particular niche is just a side effect of that. More often than not it is an …

Re: CPU test program for 8086 emulator

in PC Emulation
👍 Yeah, that 8088MPH in particular will blow your mind...it's meant to be run only in the original IBM hardware, so no easy task for emulators. Earlier thread about UniPCemu + 8088MPH: UniPCemu cycle accurate 8088 implementation

Ted Yapo's open source sampling oscilloscope (very cheap, very GHz, very discontinued now?)

This project almost fits the criteria of adalbert's List of open-source hw projects , but not exactly. Hence a new thread. Chances are that Hackaday readers are familiar with Ted Yapo's 2019 Superconference talk already, but I encourage you to have a look if you somehow missed it. UWB RADAR and …
