Re: What game are you playing now?

Lord help me I started playing Fortnight. Friend showed me a new fox skin they added in the store the other day and I think she was desperate for people to play with since she offered to buy it for me. And I am not immune to propaganda cute furry girls. Turns out I'm a lot better at this game than I …

Exiting the world of VNs for a little bit, after having loved Lost Odyssey so much, I tried FFVI on the SNES. The intro really sells it. But the combat, while fine, made me realize that I suck at it too much and I may come back to VNs sooner than expected. Final Fantasy VI has a really weird …

Having just started my playthrough, I'm still getting accustomed to the slower pace of this game. While so do like the darker interior lighting, I'm not a fan of the flashlight/weapon switching. It just feels tedious. The corridors at the start of the game are very narrow and don't allow for a lot …

I admit I didn't play a lot of visual novels (Snatcher, Ace Attorney series, and some of VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action only comes to mind), and I already knew it was an horror game and that's exactly what I was looking for. So in that sense, I wasn't disappointed. In DDLC Plus, there is …

It's a visual novel that seems really cute... on the surface. Describing it even a little bit feels like spoiling it. I'll just quote the website : A terrifying world of romance and poetry awaits! Now’s your chance to discover why Doki Doki Literature Club is one of the most beloved psychological …

In conclusion, if I had a nickel for every time I played a narrative-driven game about an early-20-something in the mid 2010's returning from college to their small hometown and reconnecting with old friends only to learn that their friends and the town itself have changed during their absence and …

Finally got around to playing Night in the Woods. It's cute, hits close to home for me at points, though with its short length I feel like it doesn't have time to really go into some things as deeply as it should. Really the most frustrating part is how it autosaves and you only have a single save …

Finished the Human campaign in WarCraft 3 . It was fun, except for a couple of levels with annoying victory conditions, where I needed to do something before a timer ran out. I wasn't a fan of those back in the day, and I don't like them now either. On the other hand, I enjoyed the hero focused …

Haven't really been playing much the past few weeks. I tried this free visual novel on itch and it ended up giving me so many thoughts as I picked apart the layers of its story that I've been writing about that instead. This will probably end up turning into a monster of an essay; might produce it …

I found a complete big box copy of The Sims Deluxe Edition at a thrift store yesterday, so of course I've started messing around again in... The Sims 2. What do you want from me, it's still the best one.

Incoming excessively-verbose essay getting way too deep into the flaws of a remake of a game for children: I first played Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil when I was around 11 or 12 and happened to rent it from Blockbuster. I hadn't played the first game and knew nothing about the series (though do two …

Here's a hot take for y'all: old games and new games are, on average, similar levels of quality. They're just good in different ways. And sometimes a series formula can start to get old after several installments and they need to shake things up to make them fresh again. Also not inherently a bad …

Just finished Super Lesbian Animal RPG ; no that's not a joke, that is actually the title. Absurdly on-the-nose title aside, I had a lot of fun with this one. Simple little indie RPG that finally dropped recently after most of a decade in development, not all that much I can really say about it (she …

What games have I backed on KS, let's see... There Came an Echo ~ I loved the studio's first game so of course I had to back their next project. It's a squad-based tactics game controlled entirely with voice commands, and while the tech is really impressive and works shockingly well, the game itself …

If you haven't played it, and though it's not retro, try Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It's made by Iga and others who were very involved in SotN and other Castlevania games. I actually do have that one, but was in the mood for 2D graphics this time. I'll give that one a shot! I would also …

Blaster Master Zero Finished it just now! 7.5 hours to complete with the real ending. I really liked this, but I'm not interested in doing any of the extra modes, etc. that unlock once you beat the game. I enjoyed this mostly from start to finish, but the dialog and story were really bad. This game …

I think this video has a good perspective on what "retro" would be, at least regarding game consoles. Yeah that makes a lot of sense. It really does feel like the evolution of gaming has really "slowed down" significantly since around 2008 or so. Graphics get more polished, controls smoother, but …

I tried to fix a PS3 having a bad power supply. Did turn on for a few seconds and then powers down. I shorted the plus and minus prongs from the psu to the mobo when getting it together. It doesnt power on anymore :) Still blows my mind to call the PlayStation 3 "retro." It doesn't feel that long …

My Final Fantasy XIV adventures continue, now placing me around 3/4 of the way through Endwalker. It's really good, but so far doesn't hit quite as hard as Shadowbringers. Maybe the last part of it slaps even harder but as of right now I have to break with majority consensus and say ShB continues to …
