Re: What is your unconscious motive for retro hardware ?

in Milliways
I was about to build my super gaming pc and had everything ready. Been away from pc gaming for about 7-8 years now so was looking forward to playing Cyberpunk 2077 on my decked out build. Long story short, i could never get my hands on one and refused to pay scalpers fee or get a 3090. So now I have …

Re: Sound card advice for SS7 build

Specific DOS games I know I will play are Doom, Doom II, Duke 3d, Quake, System Shock, X-com UFO Defense, Warcraft, Command and Conquer 1 & 2, Command and Conquer Red Alert, Fallout . Don't play Fallout under DOS, it has terrible sound drivers there. Install it under Win9x instead. Also, it's worth …

Re: Sound card advice for SS7 build

The Yamaha YMF718/719 is great, but not perfect. So it depends greatly on which games you want to play. For example, one of my favorite games is Prehistorik, and unfortunately the YMF718/719 has issues with it (stuttering whenever digital sounds are played back). Of course, it does work in pure …

Re: Sound card advice for SS7 build

If you want cheap the ESS AudioDrive is recommended, otherwise the ymf719 is excellent (but better in windows). There are lots out there, aztech sound galaxies are good, as are some sb16s. However you need to ask what is important? Bug free midi, genuine opl3, 16bit sound, driver quality, etc. …

Sound card advice for SS7 build

I have almost all the components for my SS7 build all picked out, just trying to figure out what 2nd soundcard to use for DOS mode. I am currently eyeing some Yamaha YMF719E cards on Ebay and wondering if these will be good? They seem to be plentiful, still affordable, and been hearing good things …
