Heatsink + Fan was common back then on Pentiums. Never saw thermal paste, though. My P133 and a friend's P90 don't have thermal paste, but heatsink + fan and run fine to this day. You can also use ALT+ANSI code, e.g. ALT+129 (on the numpad) to create the ü. Also, in German you can substitute the umlauts this way: ä -> ae, ö -> oe, ü -> ue. Thus, you can spell it "Fuer Elise" and still be correct.

Either increasing the game's resolution or enabling scaling should fix it. Usually both the graphics chip and the display itself support scaling, it's up to you which one to use (either an option in the graphic driver settings or a keyboard shortcut for the display's scaling).
