So I am no expert, but I picked up an abandoned machine a few years back. It was a Pentium 133 with a Voodoo 3 2000 in it. After restoring it back to working condition, I have been playing around with various OS options. The Voodoo has worked well in DOS, Win 95 and Win 98.

I just finished my Windows XP/7 machine build today and I love them both, but both are offline only for older software and games. If I touch the online world, it is Windows 10 or Linux only for me. And it will be a few short years before that Windows 10 machine will be pulled offline.

I have a Nvidia Zotag 620 in my rig which works well. For sound I have a SB0060 which does the 2.1 sound well.

I am wondering if the card is set to mute by default. I remember this happening a lot when I messed around with some Linux distro’s on my systems. If you go to device manager and look at the list of components, check to see if the card is enabled or disabled and then see if the output is muted.

Really interesting thread this. I have a newbie question. Other than the MT32 and SC55, how many of these were specifically aimed at the games market? Once the GM standard came about, I guess you could use any module, but they were designed as music making instruments first right?
