I haven't had luck at any Goodwill/CashConverters/whatever in the past few years. If its anything retro and gaming, they usually know what they have and price to Ebay match or its put up online or behind glass. Recycling Centres are where iv still managed to find good deals from time to time.

I drilled two rivets out of an old ATX case (to remove the HDD cage, it was too big and prevented me from installing AT boards). Small victory for a 23 year old, but as someone who's super un-handy with repair or power tools. Its a nice feeling 😁

I have ADHD. Focusing one one game for more then like... maybe 15 minutes is a struggle. Doesn't help it that i have a huge library of games on Steam and on all my flashcarts/CF cards. I'm sure there are a decent amount of working old HDDs out there. But i can't see why you'd specifically go looking to buy one *used* if you have none. If you have a whole stack of them lying around or get them free then sure why not. Otherwise CF or SD is the way to go for reliability and speed. …
