Re: SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97

Something seems wrong with the volume handling of SBEMU. If I run mpxplay with native VIA driver, I can turn up the vol up to 100% and it's very loud and sounds clear (have to turn down the vol of monitor to do so). But if I do the same with SBEMU in between, the volume is lower at same mpxplay …

Sorry I'm not used to FreeDOS and also assume compatibility with DOS games is still not 100%, is there a way to run SBEMU with traditional HIMEM/EMM386 on DOS 6.22/7.1? You can run jemmex on MS-DOS 6.22 or use himem/emm386. For the latter you will lose support for real mode games, but if you don't …

Okay, it was power.exe for sure. Quake demo is running almost one and a half hour in loop now, no more freezes. Sorry for confusing you crazii and sorry for blaming your wonderful piece of software. It was my fault for not checking everything possible. As for power.exe, I don't need it on this …

BTW what's the crash message? Maybe I used the wrong word. It just freeze with playing the last sound. There is no error message and Ctrl+Alt+Del is not working. I have to switch off the IGEL, because it lacks a reset Button. The time or situation when this happens is different each time. Sometimes …

If there is some option ROM, sata, raid, network boot ROM etc, you should disable it. Because these ROMs are located in memory between 640-1024 kB. Maybe you can remove one RAM module? If possible, try with less RAM. Edit: Try noems opiton for jemmex could also help. Edit2: There seems to be an …

Before thinking of any fancy new ideas, what about fixing existing problems first? At least on my machine there is not one game not crashing after some time or immediately. It's not jemmex related, because with no sound and no SBEMU, all games running with jemmex or with himem/emm386. So it's …

Why there are two SBEMU with different approach from different developers, both named SBEMU and in the same thread? What's the purpose? Do you plan to merge at some point? At least for me, it's confusing. Can someone explain please? Wouldn't it make more sense to work together on one codebase? Too …

Me too, can confirm its working on VT8237R+! Crazii, you know you are a genius and a legend alive? Great work! Thank you so much! But there are still some glitches, duke3d is crashing some seconds after start of the game, being still in main menu. It's not related to some loading process but time …

Yes, the datasheet is very helpful! I've made a new build according to the datasheet. zip updated here: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=1149765#p1149765 Thanks crazii, but it´s still not working. There is a progress, FM music is playing in Duke3d setup. It´s very disorted and way too slow, …

AFAIK HDA is a standard across variout chipsets but not including the codec chip. It should work almost with some default setting but manufacturers may implement some more complex logic e.g. for multiplexing various in/out lines to a single jack or jack plug autodetection. Usually on laptops. This …

I cannot find datasheet of VT8233 on the web. Just checked the source code and found I only modified the source code of VT82C686 to enable interrupt according to its datasheet. Not sure they use the same registers But I tried to build a test binary that operates the same register, hope it will work …

Interesting that MPXPlay's source doesn't have VT8237R but only VT8233/VT82C686, it might be a compatible chip. I think VT8233 is identical to VT8235 and VT8237(R+) in terms of sound. At least if I understand german Wikipedia right. VT8235 added USB2.0 and VT8237(R+) added SATA and Raid. Starting …

@stamasd: Please read my post again. I already wrote, MPXPlay plays nice on this one. But SBEMU not. So something is wrong (either with me or with SBEMU). And no, its not a HD codec, its oldstyle AC97. EDIT: Just saw on Wikipedia, there is a 8237"A" variant which indeed has HD-Audio instead of AC97. …
