I hope you did not type "(or any other letter of your CD drive)" as that was just instuctions to change the "D:\" to whatever the drive letter if your CD drive is. If your CD is your D: dirve, type "mount D D:\ -t cdrom", if it is E:, type "mount D E:\ -t cdrom"

I think that DosFreak is right. Remember that VDMS is using the NTVDM and sees paths and file names as DOS does, not Windows. If you don't want to reset the temp path, you could just use DOSBox.

Most Windows games work just fine in Windows XP, although there are a few Windows games that require the usage of Vmware/Virtual PC. What have you tried, so far? Any error messages? Are you getting the "Unable to initialize your audio hardware..." error? Have you also mounted the CD? Do the paths in your RESOURCE.CFG match the paths that DOSBox sees?

The Windows version does not work in XP without a lot of trouble, and even then there is a cursor bug that does not let you see what mode the cursor is in without moving it in and out of the window. If you can get the install disks for Win3x, you can install Win3x in DOSBox and run the game in 3x.

Does Dosshell works in Dosbox? Yes it does, but of course it is easier to do any file management from the host system.

The best sync that I have had with the Loom CD is with the audio track ripped to the HDD and played through ScummVM. The same is true with the Gobliiins CD.

I imagine that 5700.csc in in one of the game's resource files. Do you have a save game from right before it wants CD 2? If you do, try launching the game with CD 2 mounted and load that save game.

You can automate some things such as mounting in the autoexec section of the dosbox.conf file. You might also want to consider one of the DOSBox frontends for the Mac.

I think you are better off fixing the sound issue with DOSBox, for example, if it is a CD game, have you mounted the CD? Have you run the setup in DOSBox to configure the sound? Do the paths in your game's config file(s) match what DOSBox sees?

The limited edition is on a single DVD. The Aspyr (US) release is on the 6 CDs. I only glanced over that thread and I didn't notice anything about the installers for different versions.
