Re: Loom talking version CD

Well, I'd recommend making a "dosgames" folder in the root of some drive, eg. C:\Dosgames, and then mount that in dosbox as C:\ with "mount c: c:\dosgames" You could put in on your desktop, but I'm not sure what the path would be.

Re: Loom talking version CD

Well, first of all, I think you can run Loom with ScummVM (www.scummvm.org), which should work out a lot better than dosbox, so I'd recommend trying that first. I'm not sure about the problems w/ dosbox. For the saving, you'll need to mount a hard disk folder as well as the CD, so it has somewhere …

Re: "No CPU emulation" mode?

The in-built DOS support in Windows NT/XP basically does what you're suggesting DosBox do. It just does it badly, especially the sound (which is what VDMSound was made for - to replace the sound emulation part). Basically, using the CPU directly instead of using an emulated CPU, while still running …

Re: Getting TES:Arena started

To run a game, look for a .bat, .exe, or .com file. If there's more than one type, then it'll usually be the .bat file. Hint: Windows explorer hides extensions by default, so you might not be able to see them that way, but you can use the "dir" command in dosbox to list the files in a directory ( …

Re: Problems with chasm the rift, the game runs too slow

in PC Emulation
What is CS? Compatibility settings? Chasm came out in '97 so chances are it would be a bit slow on dosbox, *however* it will be a lot faster if you increase cycles from the default 3000. Your computer can probably do up to 10 times that. Quick steps to make dosbox faster: Change "core=normal" to " …

Re: !! question...

There should be a load of comments at the top prefixed with #, then a bunch of lines, including: fullfixed= fullresolution= output= Just change the as per my previous post, save the file, and load up dosbox again to see if that fixed the problem. If not, try different settings. eg. in mine I've got: …

Re: !! question...

Open up dosbox.conf in notepad or whatever, and try these things in order: 1. Try changing the graphics output mode (output=) Ones to try are overlay, opengl, ddraw, and maybe direct3d 2. Set fullfixed=true 3. Set fullresolution= (eg. fullresolution=640x480, 800x600, 1024x768...)

Re: xcom apocalypse

Hmm. :\ Well, I don't know how to play XCom, but I tried a few things playing under dosbox, and didn't get any freezes, but probably I just didn't do whatever makes it freeze. (I tried building something at my base though, and that was ok). Either that, or it only freezes on the original CD version …

Re: xcom apocalypse

Did you ever try running it natively, without dosbox btw? It seems to run sort of ok for me - just too fast. Even sound kind of works if you select soundblaster in the setup. This is with a cd-rip version of the original game though, so might be different.

Re: commandline params

Yes. 8 characters is an original DOS limit, and dosbox honours it for compatibility reasons. If you look at a directory listing in dosbox with "dir", you'll see the truncated names and you can use those, or just rename the files to 8 chars or less. 😀
