The command mem will show you how much memory is free inside DOSBox. Generally, DOSBox has more free conventional memory than almost any real DOS machine. So IF there is really a lack of memory (and the error doesn't occur because of something else), it's going to be a lack of EMS or XMS memory. …

LPT dongle support is harder to get right than plain old LPT printing support. It might simply not work in any DOSBox build because of e.g. timing issues. Round-trip times is something no emulator can really get right.

You wouldn't buy it anymore because it costs $5.26 more than the competing product ;) DOSBox can't set the refresh rate because SDL can't. Or rather, because SDL 1.2 can't. AFAIK SDL 1.3 adds that possibility, but it never ever seems to get done. 1.3 is becoming the Duke Nukem Forever of libraries …

Certainly was back in the 286/386 era, but I wonder if that's still the case today when the vast majority of x86 CPUs spend most of their time executing 32-bit protected mode code. I have found that DOSBox with core=dynamic cycles=max will run DOOM's "doom -timedemo demo1" faster than real MS-DOS 7.10 (i.e. a stripped down Win98 that boots into DOS) on my system. (E8400, nVidia 8600, 3GB RAM, Vista 32bit). I get roughly 990 realtics in DOSBox and about 1145 realtics in MS-DOS. …

Ok, here they come. BTW the EGA and VGA variants of the 8x8, 8x14 and 9x14 fonts are identical.

Thank you very much GH! In case anybody is interested, I've extracted all the fonts and recomposed the 9x variants out of the 8x variants and the alternate tables. I could post/attach them here unless that violates some rules.

Just FYI, this bug has disappeared. I didn't look closely at the newest changes in CVS, or in the Ubuntu Karmic packages, but it seems to be gone now. Thanks a lot. to whoever is responsible.
