I've had lots of problems running in WinXP and Win7RC1. Namely, the screen goes black quite frequently and I have to open the help screen to force a redraw. Someone wrote some workarounds but they make the game run slower...

Wait, what? The line-in jack is for feeding sound INTO the sound card for recording onto the computer, not for listening to sound coming OUT of the sound card! The red and white jacks are probably the only output jacks. Those are standard RCA outputs like on your TV/VCR/DVD (red=right, white=left). …

I ran away from PS/2 mice/keyboards as fast as I could. I always hated them because they weren't designed for hot-swapping/hot-plugging. USB is great, except that everything is a power-hog that wants to be the only thing plugged into a USB port on my laptop.

I'd try using an SB16 ISA for DOS compatibility if you have a free ISA slot, and use the SB Live! only for Windows apps. It's just not worth the hassle to try to get PCI sound cards to work with DOS.

Have you tried putting the original CD-ROM in your DOSBox computer's CD/DVD drive and mounting the drive in DOSBox as a CD-ROM (mount blahblah -t cdrom)? That might activate some functionality in DOSBox that will satisfy the speed test.
