Re: NVIDIA Says No to 7800 GTX in AGP Form

in Milliways
robertmo: Of course, that's assuming that the chips will still work on AGP boards. I don't know enough about the technology, but I could envision that it's entirely possible for nVidia and/or ATI to make chips that just can't communicate over the AGP bus any more.

Re: Some food for thought.

An insightful post. I think part of the problem is that most game developers don't expect their work to be relevant after 6 months (or maybe a couple years at the very most). This was especially true of small shareware developers back in the days of DOS. Another problem was that there was no …

Fade to Black

Well I just tried playing Fade to Black on a recent CVS version of DOSBox and it didn't go so well: - First I tried to run using Gravis Ultrasound for sound and music and the game froze when I tried to start it. I also noticed that the sound test seemed to be outputting sounds in the center …

Re: Duke Nukem 2 Joystick problem

I think SDL_sound is only needed for capturing DOSBox sound output to a file. I don't know what SDL_png is, but libpng is needed for screenshot support (that was a pain too - it needs zlib and both libpng and zlib are a pain to install in MinGW/MSYS) MinGW/MSYS is exactly what you describe: A Win32 …

Re: Duke Nukem 2 Joystick problem

He means that there are a lot of already-compiled-from-CVS binaries floating around. I'm a professional software engineer, and got a working MinGW/MSYS environment that I build DOSBox (and other projects) in, but it was a pain! The MinGW/MSYS team spread things out over too many files, so it's hard …

Re: Wasteland doesn't even load

What do you mean by loading a profile in DOSBox? Are you talking about some frontend? Wasteland has worked in DOSBox for a long time I think. It doesn't do anything all that tricky I don't think, so my guess is there's an issue with either the way you're running DOSBox or the way you've configured …

Re: Game Compilation CDs

in Milliways
robertmo has a good point, although I think those games would be handled as an exception. I think that it's also a good idea to keep around the original un-patched, un-cracked versions of files in case problems are discovered with a particular patch or crack (or in case a newer one is released).
