Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Porting an Allegro project is easy if you know the specifics of the system you're porting to. I know next to nothing about Linux and while I have some experience with MacOS coding, it was enough to know I never wanted to code for it ever again. That's why it makes more sense to hire someone else to …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

Allegro supposedly supports Windows, Linux, Mac, etc. SDL supports even more platforms, both officially and unofficially, and is used by DOSBox and ScummVM. Unity does seem to be the flavor of the month, probably because it uses Mono and Microsoft dumped support for XNA.

Since this has become a request thread: recently split a thread, gave split a new name, but each selected post to become part of the new topic kept their old post titles. Annoying. I'm pretty sure the old forum worked that way too, although I could be mistaken since I was usually lazy and used " …

Re: 486->MIDI to USB->Laptop->MUNT

I think you're really supposed to have optocouplers on at least one of the directions, but it should be safe. It also won't work on pre-SB16 cards because their MIDI pins use some TTL thing because they don't have a proper MIDI UART. Also, you can buy proper gameport-to-MIDI-DIN cables, or at least …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

How is XMP compared to Dumb? Low-end performance? DOS compiling? Never heard of Dumb. It blows Mikmod (and one other library/player whose name I can't remember) out of the water in terms of accuracy. I'm not sure about DOS performance, but it runs fine on my obsolete 1GHz ARM based Evo 4G phone. I …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

What was that flash of text around 5:30 in the video? BTW, speaking of tracker music: I'd like to recommend xmp (not XMPlay, which is also good) as a modern open-source library/player for various track music formats: http://xmp.sourceforge.net/ The author is awesome: I've sent him a bunch of bug …

Maybe as a compromise on the reply button, it could be made in the same style as the edit/del/report/warn/info/quote buttons, with an icon on the left and "reply" text on the right? What would be a good icon? As to what group of buttons it belongs to, it fits in more with the "new" topic button, so …
