Re: Looking for PVGA1A

in PC Emulation
PVGA1A is special in one respect -- for a short while it was the only SVGA available to consumers. It was not even called SVGA then (extended VGA or VGA Plus). There may be games and demos that just don't support anything else -- so far I've found only one but I did not do really thorough search yet …

Looking for PVGA1A

in PC Emulation
I am trying to improve PVGA1A emulation in my patch for DOSBox and I came to conclusion that it would be much easier to continue if I had access to that card. It can be 1M or 512K version, I don't care, as long as it is actual PVGA1 A . If anybody has that card and willing to part with it, I will …

Re: Might and Magic IV issues

Just checked, that error is in the executable but even if you remove any file, you should not see that one. This is some generic problem. Can you post your dosbox.conf file (as attachment)? Also, when you run install from CD, tell it to install into subdirectory on C:, not to the root -- my version …

Re: Might and Magic IV issues

The error message comes from xeen.exe itself -- DOSBox would say "Illegal command..." I just tried installing it and it works fine. Odd, I have the same files but all file sizes are slightly smaller than yours (except INTRO.CC which is significantly smaller). My version comes from MM Trilogy CD. Are …

Re: Floppy lacks spring

in PC Emulation
Some did, some did not. Even when they did, it was not exactly "eject," more like "release." If your drive has space for fingers to grab the disk then "no eject" is normal. I have Epson dual floppy drives and those have no space for fingers -- the disk moves out by about 1cm when I open the latch. …

Re: Anyone have a 'fanless' / passive cooled only PC?

in PC Emulation
Using CF instead of HD is a good idea. It is pretty much the same interface, and on real vintage PC you are limited to 2GB HD anyway. Many modern HDs don't even have 2GB switch anymore; even if they do, it looks kinda stupid to use 2GB off 200GB drive. OTOH, 1-2GB CFs are very reasonably priced …

Re: SimTown in DOSBox

There are two versions of SimTown -- one for Win3.1 with Win32s, the other is for Win9x. Be careful with newer version on Win2k/WinXP, it may mess up some icons. Older version requires WinG. Not sure if it can be used on XP. Most likely, yes, but it will require some figuring out.

Re: Is this one of the reasons of PC gaming decline?

in Milliways
Level of testing heavily depends on the company. Typically, game get more thorough testing than installer. This is largely due to psychological reasons -- there are perceivably fewer ways for installer to fail compared to game. So it needs less testing, right? The next step: testing plan omits …
