As it turns out, it appears that the RCA plugs are incorrectly hooked up to "Input" from the SC instead of "Output", switch them and it should solve the issues, all else being equal.

It could have been polarity too, the RA-30 is actually a later model based on the Sound Canvas.

XG is what you want. Otherwise you'll get better results with a Roland Sound Canvas if you use TG300 mode.
