Re: Roland SC-55 power supply

I replaced it with non-official ones that meets the specs, for MT-32 and SC-55 and any other old synth that has a noisy old power supply. From memory, almost all MIDI modules use the same barrel, or very very close to. Certainly Roland modules all use the same size from my experience. Of course some …

Re: Roland MT-120

Just had a look and it uses the UPD6736 DAC which itself appears to be the 16-bit only baby brother of the UPD63200. It's pin-compatible, with the only difference being that pin 3 that selects between 16/18-bit on the UPD63200 is not connected on the UPD6736. I imagine you could 'upgrade' it if …

Re: Roland MT-120

It's worth explaining that a SC-50 is in fact a SC-55mkII minus MT-32 tones. And that's what this unit is, a SC-50 with sequencer - well, probably! I don't believe the service notes/manual are available for this device, so it's hard to be sure that it uses the UPD63200 DAC, and so on. It could be a …

Re: Mortal Kombat II - Wrong drums with Yamaha DB50XG

in DOS
In the sound folder there are music files for different devices going by the extentions (mid, gvs, awe, lap, sbl). Replacing deadp.mid with deadp.gvs (Gravis, GF1 patchset has 1 drumkit) results in a different instrument selection for the level The Deadpool but the weird drumkit is still selected. …

Those are almost all Sierra games, which are decompiled and able to be patched. I doubt other game companies will be as easy. A hex editor should allow you to find SysEx, although it could be a lot to look through. Google for what GM SysEx looks like.

Re: Mortal Kombat II - Wrong drums with Yamaha DB50XG

in DOS
I've noticed with Mortal Kombat II that when I use the DreamBlaster X2GS I get the power kit instead of the standard kit in-game. Using the DB50XG it defaults to the standard kit, even after a GS reset (GM mode doesn't do GS drum kits?). The power kit seems correct, going by the Sega Saturn music …

Re: Space Quest 1 VGA Sound Format

Since I have the master files for SQ1VGA's SFX, I can tell you: - there's 49 digital sound effects, at least in the master collection. I haven't gone through them all to see if any are unused, dupes etc - there seems to be 36 digital sound effects in my in-game records - the original file format of …
