Re: PC for MT-32

All I know is, 7th Guest was composed for GM, and the 7/11 soundtrack CD has SC-55 recordings. George Sanger has talked about it being a GM composition, and regardless of whether it was edited for MT-32 playback or not, it doesn't sound anywhere near as good compared to the native SC version. Edit: …

Re: PC for MT-32

Slightly OT, but the 11th Hour (and 7th Guest for that matter) are General MIDI games, and will NOT sound great on the MT-32. Should sound sub par most of the time! If it sounds OK, it's chance only, the music was composed for GM and I don't believe it was converted for MT-32 playback.

Re: Which "old-type" Roland MT-32 to get for DOS games?

I'd be surprised if any game released after 1989 would specifically require a MT-32 just because the composer prefered the way it sounded on it, or because he wanted to exploit some quirks that were not available on the CM-32. Economically speaking, that wouldn't have made any sense. Although it's …

Re: Sierra/Dynamix sound driver hacking

in DOS
Yeah, I would love that too. They are completely coded/programmed differently, so it is not a simple patch or fix. I'm sure it could be done, but the effort required is probably prohibitive. Curious to hear NewRisingSun's opinion. Guybrush: I advise against using Roland MT-32 for TIM games, the …

Re: Roland Sound Canvas Sc-50

To go back to the OP's question, the SC-50 should be fine for most cases of GM. I prefer having the higher polyphony of a SC-55mkII, but nothing wrong with a SC-50. I believe MUNT is also not limited to a 32khz sampling rate or the 14~15bit resolution of the hardware MT-32. Yes, I share NRS's …

Re: Sound Canvas model selection

Sorry for this small detour, but reading through these comments, what would be marks against the SC-88VL for this intended purpose? Just curious, have a similar consideration myself. There's really no marks 'against' any Sound Canvas option between the SC-55 and SC-8850 timeline, however for …

Re: Sound Canvas model selection

People often talk about the 88Pro, but I don't see the benefits of it over the SC-8850 (aside from a marginally cheaper price). The 8850 has much better technology plus an 88Pro map, and the drumkits are far superior to the (IMO quite average) ones in the 88Pro. The GM map is overall quite a bit …

Re: Roland Sound Canvas Sc-50

Not true, MUNT (the latest version) emulates the MT-32 almost perfectly, and for 99.9% of cases perfectly. derSammler: Yamaha devices that have it have it as part of a Roland GS compatibility mode (in every case I can think of). Kawai I am not sure about, but I would imagine it is a similar …

Re: SC-55 acting weird.

Make sure the adapter is correct also, that could be too much power/not enough (also check polarity). I think I have had that exact scenario pop up before. Also, consider checking the battery, which there is a long dedicated thread on this forum about.
