Re: MT2GM on LAPCI

Depending on what MIDI files you are playing, the Sierra game MT-32-GM SysEx may also be helpful. But it misses out on various instruments. What GM tracks are you playing, or is it games?

Re: Munt Reloaded - Development

Great work. I was talking to Rob Atesalp not too long ago, who composed sound effects for quite a few Sierra MT-32 games, and he was talking about how he made a lot of them, basically changing pitch bend and note range until it sounded crazy.

Re: Roland SC-88 versus SC-88 Pro?

How is the GM performance on it? I've always been intrigued by the Integra as a rompler, but the GM examples I've heard haven't sounded that great to me. I've also wondered how it compares to the XV-5080, which I can and do use as a GM module (it works well for orchestral stuff I find). There's …

Re: Roland SC-88 versus SC-88 Pro?

James, I think he meant pro modules, not the consumer line. I have an Integra but I will likely never use it for gaming. probably the biggest sound difference is that the jv1010 is 32khz, the d70 is 44/48khz. they have different rom sample size, so.. of course its going to sound different. I know …

Re: Any comment on the Yamaha MU-100?

MU-2000EX, then, if you want the GS-compatibility. That's a MU-2000 with upgraded firmware. This might be a problem because when there's talk of "firmware upgrades" with older synth modules, those can't always be loaded over SysEx/MIDI or from floppy, sometimes you have to physically swap the …

Re: Roland SC-88 versus SC-88 Pro?

Saotome: Seems the 8820 and the digital D70 are highly evaluated. I think I'm gonna skip the 88 pro (I wished to get it so much before) as u guys recommended and grab a D70 instead. BUT what about the 8850? 8820 should sound great but unlike 8850, some of its samples are mono according to the WIKI. …

Re: Any comment on the Yamaha MU-100?

Having had a 100, I would say the MU2000 was amazing in comparison. Digital output made a hell of a difference to the sound. I sold mine to get a Yamaha MOTIF ES, but the 2000 was great. You can hear the 100 I think on my Eco Quest 2 soundtrack on Sierra Music Central, the 'Otters and the …

Re: Roland SC-88 versus SC-88 Pro?

For GM gaming, a 55 or 88 will be the way to go (probably 55). For further applications the 88Pro and 8820/50 are far more advanced modules and are definitely better. The default drumkit on the 88Pro is kind of lame, so I would certainly advise against picking it for GM gaming just based on that. It …

Re: Munt Reloaded - Development

gdjacobs: 32 bit floats have their purpose. It's probably what I'd use if I wanted to create an MT-32 sample based remix track. However, I'm not too excited about it from a listening point of view. Just curious about this statement. What would be undesirable about a higher quality render from a …

Re: Last game made for mt 32

Pretty likely it would have been in 1992. PQ1VGA and Laura Bow 2 were 2 of the last Sierra games to have MT-32 composed scores (probably the last two). King's Quest 6 kinda sorta had some tracks optimized for the MT-32 but it is a bit nebulous as to how much. The score was composed for General MIDI. …

Re: Roland SC-D70

The SC-D70 is an upgrade over the SC-88Pro. It basically gives the same samples but with digital output, which upgrades the quality a bit. I have had one for about 9 years now. In all the recordings I used the 8850 for, I used actually a D70 (except one or two patches which sound different like the …
