Re: Games that uses the CM-32L specific sound effects

I posted this on the mostly unused 'new QuestStudios' forums, but since it applies more here, I'll add it, regarding Larry 5 and the CM-32L: NewRisingSun and I have been investigating Leisure Suit Larry 5. (I then go on to explain about the CM, which I have omitted here.) Ironically, the MT-32 …

Re: Roland D series drivers/patches for Sierra games

in DOS
I thought the same thing. I saw the sale on eBay by chance last week, only was on eBay Australia, which is where I am now. Since I would want it to be a high quality alternative to the MT-32 for soundtrack recording, not for authenticity, I was happy to pick it up- no one else bid! I will definitely …

Re: Roland D series drivers/patches for Sierra games

in DOS
Never, Eric :) More that I didn't know if I could reach you post-QS forums. Thanks for posting, you totally rock! I did a ton of research today and found some mention of files on old BBS'es, but nowhere I could find them. I recently purchased a D-110. RWI modded too, didn't even know such a thing …

Roland D series drivers/patches for Sierra games

in DOS
Hi folks, Bit of an obscure one here, but not too many places to ask these days. Does anyone have any of the drivers/patches for the Roland D-110/etc, for Sierra games? They ran up until KQ5, I think. I know Cloudschatze had made some discoveries, but I think those disappeared along with the …

Re: VGA games with only 16 colors

in DOS
Very interesting, I would love to know more about this. Sierra seems to be the worse offender, so many of their earlier games were only 16 colors, but stated VGA is supported on the box. Did that just refer to compatibility support if you had a new VGA card 'in the day', or was it claiming VGA …

Re: Real difference between MT-32 OLD and NEW MIDIs

When you play Privateer with a MT-32, there is a message displayed when you quit the game As with several Sierra games, too! Crypto: Bottom line, just get a second revision MT-32 or use MUNT, don't worry about 'bugs' and whatnot, in the real world you are unlikely to notice, or care, you will just …

Re: Audio buffer in MUNT

sergm, thanks very much for the reply, I appreciate it. I realized I had an old version installed, 1.3, so I upgraded to 1.5 and that helped a little bit too, plus more customization (your recommended value of 36 works well for audio latency, plus 1 and 1 for the others). I messed around with the …

Audio buffer in MUNT

Hey folks, Been trying tonight to use MUNT as a portable MT-32 to sequence with without having to lug my MT-32 around, but ran into a snag. I was trying to use my hardware SC-8850 with it, and the MUNT runs very slowly in comparison. The BASSMIDI synth soundfont I was using as a SC-55 was also …

Re: mt-32 rev.0 (old) vs rev.1 (new)

Well, obviously I'm wrong, just compared my MT-32 and MUNT. Why in the world would I think that? Is it perhaps accurate to say that the MT-32 rev 1 and the CM-32L have the same cleaner output, and as such the same 'sound'? (Minus the CM SFX in the MT-32 rev 1 obviously!)

Re: It's a "Can you remember this game?" thread!!

http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/universe/screenshots/gameShotId,251153/ God, someone played Space Quest 1 VGA, didn't they? :) Being Australian too I'm disappointed I didn't come across this one in my youth, but glad I can check it out now. Thanks Squall! Magnuz, I'm trying to rack my brains on …

Re: mt-32 rev.0 (old) vs rev.1 (new)

I think you have the newer MT-32 confused with the CM-500? Unless the unit I sent you was somehow unique, no production-model MT-32 contains the CM-32L sound effects. Cloud: Maybe I'm totally off base? I thought the MT-32 rev 1 was the same as the CM-32L, exactly. I could've sworn it produces the …

Re: mt-32 rev.0 (old) vs rev.1 (new)

Sorry to necro, but to answer this: The main reasons would be a slightly less noisy output and addition of CM-32L sound effects, at the expense of some vibrato accuracy in extreme examples (Space Quest 3 in one track, HOC in airplane stamp SFX). I've been using it over a rev 0 for about 7 years now. …

Re: Cakewalk 3.01 and MT-32 SysEx

Hey MoM (LOVE the name, BTW). The instruments should play fine, unless you missed the program changes when recording. if that's not it, then it must be that the SysEx reset after the game was exited. The trick is to send the SysEx in Cakewalk before editing, so the right SYX is already in the MT-32. …
