Re: Crystal Caves Hud Shaking

To elaborate on it: the "shaking" happens only on horizontal motion. Probably something to do with the EGA pages being interleaved. The status area will move with the background (which it shouldn't) until a certain threshold (8 pixels) is reached. Then, it jumps to the other end, repeating this. It …

Re: Problems with freeware game

You need a DPMI provider. This was programmed into older versions of DOSBox, IIRC and is also present again in current CVS version. If you don't want to use either of those, you will need the file CWSDPMI.EXE (which is a DPMI provider). Search Goooooogle for it.

Re: directory refuse to mount

Do you actually get the text "mount c c:\tyrian" on the DOSBox prompt? If you don't, then that's likely the problem and you may need to remap your keyboard. A quick test is to add the command to the [autoexec] section in dosbox.conf

Re: Sounds old school...

This hasn't changed in DOSBox, but you've changed the game's settings. Run the game's setup and tell it to use General MIDI/Roland sound. With the DOSBox default settings, this will be passed on to whatever MIDI device you have set up.

Re: DOSBox Graphics Efficiency

Re: mt32-to-gm Ready Sysex to use with midi-ox

It's a simple 30sec long MIDI file that remaps the MT-32 sounds. Works well and sounds good. Be sure to play it through WMP or another MIDI player that handles embedded SysEx data. WinAMP doesn't, unfortunately. Also, no amount of patching seems to make it possible to get the MT-32 to produce a …

Re: wing commander armada

i see. well i am using dosbox 0.63. also i type in loadfix but then if i type armada.exe it does not work. "it does not work" is a little vague. If you mean the game doesn't even attempt to start, then you've probably not mounted the directory in which it is installed. I'm not gonna tell you how to …

Re: wing commander armada

EMS needs to be switched off for WCA to work, so leave that off. Also, in my experience, WCA has some problems with having too much free memory. So, before you start the game, type "loadfix" at the DOSBox prompt. As a bonus, I'll tell you that I've found that WCA works best at 3263 cycles. (normal …
