I didn't even know people were trying to use SciTech Display Doctor in virtual machines these days, or that you could get 3D acceleration in Windows 98 SE in VirtualBox (?). Is this a known problem and is there a fix? Yes, there have been many threads about this in the past. It is a problem with the old version of SDL used by DOSBox. How can I solve the issue? You don't. Mounted drive letters are not accessible after an image is booted; you can only access drives mounted using imgmount. I think someone might have once mentioned that Windows 95 running in DOSBox might be able to access a shared network folder on the host machine …

I tried a standard install on my Windows 98 SE VM, only now the mouse locks up at game startup. I've tried with patches, without, turning hardware acceleration down, down, down, and off, and the pointer will not budge. None of Operation Stealth, Cruise for a Corpse, Future Wars, or Beneath a Steel Sky really qualifies as a "platformer", though. Conventionally, those would be "adventure" games, or "point and click".
