The CONFIG.SYS has DOS=UMB. It should be DOS=HIGH,UMB, and it probably has to be on the second line, after HIMEM but before EMM386. I think you can use LH on MSCDEX, too. MS-DOS 6 and Windows 95 actually get along quite nicely. If you install DOS first and Windows second, you can just hit F8 when Windows 95 is starting up and boot the "previous edition of MS-DOS". But I don't really understand why you would want to have both DOS 6 and FreeDOS accessible all the time. …

A bit of investigation suggests that MS Golf suffers the same problem in Windows XP. (One page suggests solving the problem with a minimum page file size of 4 GB, but that seems a bit fishy.)

Oops. I misread that. "A220 I5 D1 T2" is a really weird BLASTER line. See for instance http://www.oldskool.org/guides/oldonnew/sound . Did you come up with that yourself? Try changing T2 to T4 or T5. Or change D1 to D0.
