Re: Too new for old

in PC Emulation
I ended up installing Oracle's virtual machine software and Windows XP in my Windows 7 machine, but I still haven't finished getting it to accept my actual video and sound card drivers rather than using generic ones. I know one person at least has succeeded at doing so. I'm quite sure that can't be …

Indeed. They are even for sale at www.gog.com if one does not want to bother trying to set them up. There are better alternatives, like eDuke32 or the Back in Action remake for Jagged Alliance, though those might not be an authentic experience.

Re: Overcoming False "Not Enough Free Space" Errors

Very well, I hid the other partition on the disk such that only the Windows 98 SE partition was present. No change. I also tried running Scandisk. No errors. It occurred to me I might not have the Windows Installer Engine (instmsia.exe) installed, but no, the unofficial service pack took care of …

Re: Which Operating System to go for?

in PC Emulation
With only 160 MB of RAM, XP is not likely to do anything useful, even if you try to strip it down. There is something out there called "Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs" (aka WinFLP), but I wouldn't bother with it. (While it most definitely is an official Microsoft release, I don't think there's …

Re: Overcoming False "Not Enough Free Space" Errors

Yes, hiding partitions is easy, but I fail to see what hiding partitions has to do with it. The setup program is being run from drive C, and Windows 98 SE is running from drive C. The setup program also does not ask me for a particular target drive, but it seems reasonable to assume it is trying to …

Overcoming False "Not Enough Free Space" Errors [Sovled]

in Windows
I am trying to install a package of Live! DOS drivers from here under Windows 98SE on a 12 GB FAT32 partition, but every time I run setup.exe I get a "not enough free space" error. I have tried filling the partition to capacity, but it doesn't make a difference. I can only assume the installer is …

What does the MT-32 box in SBEMIXER.EXE do?

in PC Emulation
I asked about this a while ago, but there was no response, so I thought I'd try a new thread. The DOS mixer utility for Sound Blaster Live! cards has a little check box marked "MT32". What exactly is it supposed to do? And why wouldn't it do anything for Monkey Island 2?
