Re: Is there a list of games composed on MT-32 (OLD vs new), or a list of which synths were used for which DOS games?

That music is on the second CD, track 12. The CD version is missing nothing, and nothing has been cut-down. Nothing whatsoever. If you think something has been cut, then you just have not looked properly. It only plays the Character Creation music if you have the first CD in the drive. The game only …

Re: Is there a list of games composed on MT-32 (OLD vs new), or a list of which synths were used for which DOS games?

I listened to the YouTube recording you linked to, so I could evaluate the claim about shorter Red Book audio versions more thoroughly. It is true that the MIDI versions of some pieces have in-song loops that are not present in the Red Book audio versions. Examining the MIDI files, these in-song …

Re: Is there a list of games composed on MT-32 (OLD vs new), or a list of which synths were used for which DOS games?

Realms of Arkania: Star Trail: Redbook audio or Roland SC-55? Redbook audio. The Redbook audio recordings use Roland SC-55, Proteus-1 samples and an unknown drum kit. I don't know what version people use who say that the Redbook audio versions are shorter, because they are not, they are longer. The …

Re: About Roland Virtual Sound Canvas 3

@all, i am very sad 🙁, the adress line decryption looks good for SC55 ROM 's, i am shure, that data line decryption is also good. Loaded the dectypted 3 files stored as one file is now clearly listable - instruments are now recognizeable - and i can hear, that adress-lines are fine. But useing the …

Re: About Roland Virtual Sound Canvas 3

We have already finished decrypting and decompressing the SC-55 wave ROM data, and are now in the process of interpreting the instrument parameters from the control ROM and translating them into corresponding SoundFont generators. At least to the extent that this is possible -- the SoundFont …

Re: About Roland Virtual Sound Canvas 3

The SC-55 wave ROM uses 8.25 bits per sample: 8 bits of mantissa for every sample, plus 4 bits of base 2 exponent (i.e. left-shift count) for every 16 samples. The encountered maximum shift count is ten, making the decompressed wave ROM samples 18 bits wide, even in the original SC-55. Mantissa and …

Re: About Roland Virtual Sound Canvas 3

kitrinx and I made some substantial progress on the SC-55 wave ROM front. We have successfully understood the process of address scrambling . kitrinx connected a logic analyzer to log the address fetch patterns when playing a single piano note. It looked like this (identation mine): 60455 70B20 …

Re: Temple of Apshai Trilogy

in DOS
Is there any chance the game executable is looking for something on the disk (weak bits, half tracks, etc.) and running differently if it doesn't find them? No. When I say that the keydisk protection scheme "wraps" the program file, I mean that the keydisk checking routine replaces the protected …

Re: Temple of Apshai Trilogy

in DOS
The 5.25" disk's content is identical to the 3.5" disk's, except for the fact that TRILOGY.COM is wrapped with the Formaster Copylock keydisk checking routine. So, no long-lost version with correct gameplay. 🙁

Re: Temple of Apshai Trilogy

in DOS
I have asked on TDC for anybody to contribute an image of the 360 KiB version. Let's see what happens. The 360 KiB version is listed as having some kind of key disk copy protection scheme in a list of copy-protected games by Moebius, of The Good Old Days. Since the commonly-available version does …

Re: Temple of Apshai Trilogy

in DOS
Is it written somewhere that it was done with Turbo Pascal? No, but there are very characteristic strings ("Copyright (C) 1985 BORLAND Inc") in TRILOGY.COM.

Re: Temple of Apshai Trilogy

in DOS
The only one I can find looks like the label was printed on a dot matrix printer and is text only. Sounds like a "Slash" release. I'm not very familiar with TDC - does it contain photos of the actual copy of the game the disk image was made from? Not that I know of. But the disk was originally …

Re: Temple of Apshai Trilogy

in DOS
TDC has a Kryoflux image of a 720 KiB disk of the game. The files are identical to yours, with the exception of additional "AUTOEXEC.BAT" and "GO.BAT" files. Unless somebody unearths a 360 KiB disk of the game with different files (such as this one or this one ), I would say that the finding is just …
