The sockets have a little notch at one side (in your pictures they're on the upper side). The cache chips have a little indentation in the plastic that looks like a semicircle. Align the chips so that the indentation matches up with the notch in the socket.

Today my card came back from Portugal where carlostex has fitted it with a Lattice GAL and it works perfectly. 😁 Thank you very much for testing! BTW, currently the SAA1099 chips are available for a very reasonable price from a chinese ebay seller.

The Ecargxus demo works fine for me on IRQ 5 (AWE32+SOFTMPU). The tempo is only very slightly off on a real 486, this seems one of the cases where a slowed-down machine doesn't work that well. BTW, there are more MT-32 demos from the same group, but these are hardcoded to 330h/IRQ2: Even better than …

I have Savage 3d, S3 Trio 3D, Riva TNT2, TNT2 Vanta, TNT2 and a Radeon 9200 128mb - all AGP cards the thing is all of those cards have very similar scores in PCPBENCH even the Radeon 9200. Is the bottleneck the fact its AGP x2 or is it the CPU? Most probably it's because you didn't enable write …

No, this isn't the usual hanging notes bug. Other hints: - It is reproducible at the same spot every time, and always sounds the same - It happens even when digital sounds are turned off

I've had this error in the past, but unfortunately I can't remember what fixed it. Did you already have a go with the CTCU utility? I reckon this is not a problem with the drivers/DOS version/missing Windows installation, but with the PnP configuration on the card itself.

Many socket 3 boards autodetect the required voltage through the VOLTDET pin.

OK, it seems my estimates about doubling the framerates on a K6-3 by enabling the MTRRs was a bit optimistic, but on the Athlon the gain is certainly impressive. Wow, I had no idea you could do that. This could be very very useful. What's the lowest possible? 1.5x? Available multiplicators for K6+ are 2x, 3x, 3.5x, 4x, 4.5x, 5x, 5.5x and 6x. There even are tools that can set it from DOS command-line (e.g. K6CLK). And you can double your Quake 640x480 …

Here are some comparison benches from my 1.4 GHz Athlon box: PCPBench: 184.3 3DBench: 402.0 For demanding apps you could also try late DOS-era demoscene stuff (they went on for a bit longer than games), e.g. Smash Designs demos go up to 1600x1200: Event Horizon (1999) Sleepless (2000)
