Re: dgVoodoo site flagged as unsafe

Fun fact: BT used to flag OneDrive and a bunch of other legit sites as suspicious too. Some would fail to load but not give explicit warning messages, but I discovered what was causing the issue in the end. I disabled their web protection stuff because of that.

Re: DOSBox 0.74 CPU Benchmark

Do you read the output of configure to make sure everything is being detected correctly? I haven't been building the 0.74-3 exe, just testing against the official download. Out of interest, I performed a 32-bit MinGW build of SVN though as I hadn't tested that in a while. I didn't see anything …

I'm comparing 32-bit dynamic there; it's my 32-bit VS build that's 66% faster than 32-bit 0.74-3. The 64-bit build …

Re: DOSBox 0.74 CPU Benchmark

I using the 64-bit version of MinGW through Msys2 (GCC 9.2.0) to compile 64-bit builds, and version 16.4.5 of VS Community 19. 64-bit builds are comparable between VS and MinGW, with MinGW being slightly faster IIRC. FWIW, attached are my results of Speedtst with a 32-bit VS19 build. 5055556 parrots …

Re: DOSBox 0.74 CPU Benchmark

I've posted about this in another thread the past, but in my tests my Ryzen 3700x underperforms in 32-bit builds built with MinGW (like the official releases). However, it performs far better with MinGW 64-bit builds or 32-bit builds created with Visual Studio. My Quake timedemo score at 320x200 is …

Re: High Audio Usage even without sound

I'm seeing this behaviour to an extent too... a very small, and in my case insignificant, extent. CPU usage from "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation" does indeed increase when DOSBox is active even if no sounds are playing. I'm assuming that DOSBox is always technically outputting audio even if …

Re: Mortal Kombat 3 movement

Yeah. If you're playing with a keyboard this probably feels more odd than if you're playing with a pad or a stick, but the same thing is true on other versions of MK3 and UMK3. You cannot duck while you are moving forward or backward.

Re: ROLAND UM1-G USB-Midi interface

Just a slight word of caution about the UM-1G, but not about its functionality. I have a UM-2G and it has a rubberised coating. Over the years that coating has degraded to goo and the thing is now a sticky mess, although it still works fine. If the UM-1G has the same coating, the same thing will …

Re: Benchmarking DOSBox on latest machines

I've only tested briefly but 0.74 and 0.74-2 have similar performance to 0.74-3: topping out at around 180, so significantly below that of my VS19 builds. Also, enabling screenshot support in the VS builds may have a measurable performance impact, though not a large one. I'd be interested to try a …

Re: Benchmarking DOSBox on latest machines

Found something interesting about my results - my 32-bit Visual Studio builds are much faster. My own builds using MinGW were comparable to 0.74-3, however, this is an SVN build built using VS19: D1: Microseconds 1 loop: 2.32 Dhrystones / second: 431267 VAX MIPS rating: 245.46 D2: Microseconds 1 …

Re: Benchmarking DOSBox on latest machines

after turning off threading you should have only 8 cores available in resources monitor and in task manager dosbox proces should be using about 12,5% When I said it did nothing, I was talking about nothing to DOSBox's performance. It virtually fully loads a single core of the eight. The only …

Re: Benchmarking DOSBox on latest machines

~7-7.5%, which makes sense if Dosbox is mainly running on a single thread and a Ryzen 7 exposes 16 logical cores. HwInfo's monitoring seems to back that up; approximately 95% utilisation of a single thread, with the workload seeming to be spread between two cores/threads. I'm not going to test it …

Re: Benchmarking DOSBox on latest machines

None of those things have much if any impact. Watching the core speeds in Ryzen Master as the benchmark runs suggest that load is being split between two cores, but neither core is approaching being maxed out. I suppose the Windows scheduler could be playing a role, but setting affinity to two …

Re: Benchmarking DOSBox on latest machines

It's dynamic; I just retested with core explicitly set to dynamic and experienced similar results. The 32-bit version simply doesn't seem to perform brilliantly on Ryzen. I was experiencing the same thing with my own builds. Thing is though, I noticed with Quake that I could push the cycles …

Re: Benchmarking DOSBox on latest machines

Ryzen 7 3700x 32-bit 0.74-3 (Windows) D1: Microseconds 1 loop: 3.24 Dhrystones / second: 308806 VAX MIPS rating: 175.76 D2: Microseconds 1 loop: 3.45 Dhrystones / second: 289593 VAX MIPS rating: 164.82 Not exactly spectacular, and there seems to be a fair amount of variance between runs. However... …
