For me the most stable combination is usually VIDE-CDD.SYS and good old MSCDEX.EXE (with /E switch when EMS is available)

It depends on what parts, but I guess I should have no trouble sourcing enough for at least a ROM board (I have a Multi-IO with working IDE in 8-bit mode). Memory ICs for either an EMS or an 1MB board will be harder to get though.

If you have enough space, 1x 0.1ohm + 2x 0.4ohm is about 0,067ohm, which might just cut it. You'd have to be very creative with making room for all that, though, so I guess that might not be possible.

You can go back version by version of Windows NT untill you find a working Program manager. Windows 2000 -> Windows NT 4.0 SP6 -> Windows NT 4 RTM -> Windows NT 3.51 SP5 -> Windows NT 3.5 -> Windows NT 3.1

If you find a modern 5V chip that has simillar characteristics, then it might just work. If you have a programmer like a TL866, I think it can also work as a DRAM tester for 4464 ICs - I used my TL866 to isolate a faulty cache chip a while ago. If you do desolder and put sockets, try swapping the …

You could try putting two 0.1 ohm resistors in parallel. That would get you the equivalent of a 4W 0.05 ohm resistor.

The 1MB board, XT-IDE, etc. Lo-tech seems to be selling only bare PCBs... I believe there is also the EEPROM chips used on XT-IDE/XT-CF and the ROM board on his shop.

It looks like the chips that hold the highest four bits of each 16-bit word (so two chips for a 32-bit bus or a single one if the video controller runs on a 16-bit memory bus with two banks). progman.exe in win95 wasn't quite the same imho as Windows 3.x Different windows decorations and the way it handles minimized groups. With Win 7 being NT based you might be able to get XPs-up to SP2 (or maybe even NT 3.51s, NT4s W2ks ) Program Manager running on the 32 bit version of Win7 but again …

Used Haiku OS on my Pentium M laptop. It is a 1.7GHz Pentium M laptop with 256 MB of DDR RAM. Feels surprisingly snappy and responsive. Too bad that OS will probably never become relevant (or finished) as I find it much more elegant than Linux.

Just remember to change some options to get a Release build, as the default target has no optimizations turned on.

Despite not holding Apple in high regard,this is one area where I believe an iPad would do better than an Android device. There is that one official Roland app that should do the trick.

Check every component on its own, specially the video card and memory. Be sure to hook up a speaker to the motherboard, as it will beep if the motherboard detects errors before initializing the video hardware.
