Re: See if you can spot what's wrong.....

I mean, if someone told me a huge improvement to frame pacing wasn't a substantial advantage by itself, I would say they shouldn't bother with a 120hz monitor even if their GPU could manage it. They're clearly not good at spotting motion problems Honest question…how can a 120hz monitor improve the …

There is no drawback, but there are no substantial advantages, either. I mean, if someone told me a huge improvement to frame pacing wasn't a substantial advantage by itself, I would say they shouldn't bother with a 120hz monitor even if their GPU could manage it. They're clearly not good at …

Also, Bioshock has an option to disable vita-chambers, by not using it you degrade a game into an interactive novel with no consequences where the rules don't matter. It becomes a puzzle with a set and simple solution. I am no fan of the Vita chambers in Bioshock 1 and 2, because they just make …

At least 1920x1080 shouldn't be an issue on 4K and 8K Ultra HD 16:9 monitors. 4K and 8K UHD are two and four times the resolution of 1920x1080, respectively. The resolution itself will not be the problem (aside of course the waste of using 4 pixels to draw the exact same color instead of one, just …

You "indirectly" called me old because you implied my statement could be used for retirement home bingo. Yet you complain about me referring to a generic group of people, not people who I'm having a conversation with. Insulting people just because you aren't talking to them isn't that much better. …

I'm going to take a break from replying to allow other people to be involved if they want to be, but I don't see how you could play Gone Home vs. something like Monkey Island and think there's no difference in the number of game mechanics and challenge level. With Gone Home the interaction exists …

Re: Reasons to hate modern games

I think there are more elements in adventure games than the interactive narrative games. I'll use Gone Home for an example. In Gone Home you can move, interact with the environment by activating elements, and discovering key items which further the story and unlock forward progress. This is what I …

Joakim wrote on 2022-06-23, 15:41: I like walking simulators in some cases. For instance I think Bioshock Infinite would have been great without the meaningless repetitive action. Funny enough, by the "No failure condition" criteria BioShock isn't a video game (in BioShock Infinite you can run out …

I brought up Walking Sims, and you mentioned retirement home bingo. It doesn't matter that your other reply was to a different user it was about the same subject. It's generally understood that when you quote a post, your reply is to the post quoted. Not a comment on another post entirely. I'm glad …

Re: Reasons to hate modern games

The post you quoted wasn't a reply to you. It was a reply to how another person's definition of video game, trying to exclude walking simulators, doesn't actually make any sense. Yours doesn't either, for much the same reason. Adventure games and puzzle games are as much figuring out what to next do …

Re: dgVodooo 2.7.x and related WIP versions (2)

It is, I've already tested, but I thought it was better for him to learn to start with a stock dgVoodoo.conf before reporting problems. If it works with that, start changing options until you figure out what breaks. Then report it, unless it's one of the options that have tooltips specifically …

That's the the only type of misinformation I see here though. Lots of complaints about modern games that applies to a very, very small minority of them. It applies to a good share of the "AAA" market IMO. A lot of the things mentioned doesn't even do that... However, "AAA market" != modern games. …

That's still dishonest. It implies that those things are tied to modern games, where they're not. That's the the only type of misinformation I see here though. Lots of complaints about modern games that applies to a very, very small minority of them.

Re: Reasons to hate modern games

Escort missions. Hate them so much. Its not a new element though. Remember a mission in jedi knight 2 being horrible in this way and also tie fighter. Stupid suicidal NPCs. So I take it this thread stopped being about modern games? :) The problem is, asking about modern games in this forum is …

Re: SSAA possible?

You can write any resolution you want in the resolution box (up to 16K), dgVoodoo will downsample it as long as Scaling mode is is set to "Stretched, keep aspect ratio". That is effectively SSAA. I have not seen a game in dgVoodoo where MSAA works and resolution forcing doesn't. SSAA would likely …
