Re: ATI experimentation

in PC Emulation
I've fixed several issues with Wipeout in GLRage r4 : No more crashes when the intro video plays, no missing polygons, no missing background images and the signal lights and power-up plates are now colored correctly. :)] Out of the blue question: Is this a game that doesn't work well with newer …

Re: Emulating EAX on any onboard sound hardware?

in PC Emulation
Maybe a bit off topic since it doesn't relate to ALchemy, but now that the last technical issue plaguing BioShock is fixed ( physics unlocker ) I decided to replay BioShock and tried getting it working with full surround and EAX. First thing I notice is some very noticeable audio artifacts that …

Re: The Wrapper Collection Project

https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat Hmm, supposed to fix StarCraft and Warcraft II but isn't working on either for me  http://www.bitpatch.com/war2.html  I know about your wrapper (nice work as always), but another option is always welcome and I just don't like that a promising …

Re: Emulating EAX on any onboard sound hardware?

in PC Emulation
ok, so I installed Host OpenAL and the Creative Licensing thing from the MB3 drivers. I made sure I had a license (by checking ALCapsViewer) and I copied sens_oal.dll in system32 to ct_oal.dll in system32. I installed Creative Alchemy 1.45.03. I still only get "Using Creative Software 3D Library", …

Re: Emulating EAX on any onboard sound hardware?

in PC Emulation
I found, that Creative released a software-based implementation of OpenAL driver, which is compatible with ALchemy, and it is not hardware based. It comes with X-Fi software or some Audigy 2 drivers. It is called "Host OpenAL" (HOAL) and it is native OpenAL driver, with up to EAX 5.0 support. All …

Re: Sticking with XP a smart move?

in Milliways
Anything past XP/2003 is an inside job, so even if these modern Windows OS' are somewhat more resistant against hackers by default, the fact that they're designed for collecting your personal information and handing it over to third parties, completely invalidates the whole security argument for up …

Re: Sticking with XP a smart move?

in Milliways
The 3 typical vulnerabilities on a home desktop PC are the web browser, an unfirewalled network, and careless installation of infected apps. But as long as those things are able to be addressed, then the underlying OS hardly matters. OS updates can rarely serve as a backstop for stuff that …

Re: Sticking with XP a smart move?

in Milliways
Discontinuation of support did not make any practical difference in anything. While you're right about the rest, this statement is wrong. Discontinuation of support does have serious security consequences, you're no longer getting patches for serious security vulnerabilities. If you're surfing the …

Re: Sticking with XP a smart move?

in Milliways
Well, people usually write viruses and other programs to scam people specifically targeting the OSes that most people use. So, even though this may be considered "Off" in thinking, using an older OS may actually be safer than the new one that everyone is using. Except on a new OS, when a security …

Re: Sticking with XP a smart move?

in Milliways
Some people are just being paranoid. If you are a normal person just surfing the web and playing older games you have nothing to worry about. Nobody is going to waste their time to specifically target you and try to screw up your computer. Most security measures are not to protect against a …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

Desktop resolution is already changed to game resolution. The problem is that if it doesn't match the native resolution of the monitor then its appearance is either stretched or centered (but logically it appears correctly as part of the desktop. On a two-monitor system, if you switch one display …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

From what I read earlier it's not really a scaling problem, but a input handling one (if he scales the image, he'll also have to scale mouse input) and then I think DxWnd would be more interesting to look at. That's not released under any license though. Off-topic, but DXGL just had another release …

Re: Nintendo NX 60fps@ 900p resolution.

in Milliways
Since no one has pointed it out yet: this is just a rumor at this point and not a very believeable one at that. Some things to consider (in bullet points, like the article!): Donkey Kong is not a selling point for Nintendo. It has had nothing but very niche titles since the SNES. Web browser use …

Re: Virtual box

in PC Emulation
Hi, I am new to pc emulation and had a question about emulating old windows OS on virtual machines. Have you ever heard of Virtual Box? How does it compare to the other virtual machine software available such like VmWare? That's very dependent on your usage scenario. If it's old games, I wouldn't …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

A workaround (and not a pretty one at that) is manually changing the resolution to the game's resolution and using any of the borderless window utilities. I tried that and it worked, but it felt like there were some frame pacing issues as a result.

Re: Fixing PC games: forever a hassle?

in PC Emulation
Even if you emulate a period accurate PC or have one you'll still run into quite a few problems here and there. Even if you give up on classic gaming and just play modern PC games then guess what: they have the same problem. PC gaming was never for people who just wanted to insert a disc and play. …
