Re: Blood 2: The Chosen On Windows 8, 8.1

I also get a stutter, every time you load the game type in "Maxfps 60" in the console to stop this. For me, at least every time I put it in the autoexec and set autoexec to read only after the main menu it sets it back to zero, even with it read only. I'm not even getting 60 FPS to begin with, no …

If it sounds like a network issue, you probably should write in detail how your network is set up. XP computers use self-assigned IPs if they don't get one. Just because your XP computer has a IP does not necessarily mean it is a valid one. What IP address do you get? Power cycle all the things.

You can go up to 1000px in vertical height actually. I'm playing at 1920x1000 (40 pixels of black bars on the top and bottom, but hey no scaling on a 1080p monitor). I don't get a consistent 60 FPS though, no clue why not. I also get a stutter, every time you load the game type in "Maxfps 60" in …

Most of these "tune-up" utilities end up doing more harm than good You mispelled "all". Software maintenance is not needed if you don't do stupid stuff in the first place. Even then, if you're the person who got the computer into a state which it needs "maintenance", you're not qualified to do it.

Re: Who's still using XP?

I've seen tons of computers slowed down by maintenance. I've not seen a single computer helped by maintenance. If your computer gets slower over time that's pretty revealing in how much shitty software you're installing (yes I'm specifically refererring to maintenance tools here).

Are you really finding much retro games you have to dual boot to XP for? No, not really that many, some old DirectDraw games...um....Breath of Fire only worked on XP, Silent Hill 2 was the last game I played under XP since in Windows 8 I just couldn't get the surround sound to work. There's a few …

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions (as I'm not actively looking for TVs now), I've only heard Sony TVs are generally good. I would recommend googling "TV you plan to buy + input lag" and see if anyone's measured it. For reference sub-1 frame (16-ms) is what the pickiest of twitch gamers need, 1-3 …

XP and Windows 8.1 dual booting here (well, removable drives) Booting back into XP it's always a shock just how awful it is compared to 7 or 8, both for productivity and gaming. I cannot for the life of me comprehend why anyone would choose to cling to it like some of you seem to be doing. Nice to …

NT/2000 compatibility modes doesn't actually seem to do much at all and they're still included in Win8 (you just need ACT, they're not in the simple UI because they're mostly useless). I think you're looking in the wrong place: Windows 8 broke compatibility elsewhere, not by changing the …

Which is exactly why they're not doing it. Come on, everyone knows Microsoft's primary goal: to get everyone to use Windows. They don't want to be scaring people away from that with online requirements or high license prices for upgrades when most of their money comes from OEMs and corporations.

Re: Who's still using XP?

I wouldn't worry too much, there's a lot of intentional misreading because people are looking for a "catch" while the reasons Microsoft are giving out Windows 10 are pretty obvious.

But as far as I'm concerned, Windows 8/8.1 is crippleware. Not only do you need 3rd party utilities to restore basic functionality I really don't get this point. Surely everyone has tons of third party software (I count 66 games installed on my computer) and lots of third party software that …

Final Fantasy VII demo - Crash if hardware acceleration is selected, software acceleration works fine (most people will use updated D3D and OGL renderers available for this game though). La-Mulana - Palette issues. If you're on Win8, DXGL is a good reference for how it should look (it's painfully …
