It seems to run very smoothly for me. You could try maybe posting images (use snipping tool) of each tab of your settings. I may be able to see something.

I just ran it under Windows 10. The problem may be the default config. Under the DOS tab, make sure you have DOSBox selected as the emulation and check "Enable Glidos'e VESA emulation.

Yes 256x256 is the maximum. The overriding of textures is done by Glidos, not the selected Glide wrapper, so it has to stay within Glide limits and 256x256 is a Glide limit.

Looks like that image may have been captured with a slight perspective transformation applied to it. Gimp has tools to alter things like that.

Yes, the tutorial is old. pngs are a much better option. Rather than trying to match the brown, you should use true transparency in the png. There are lots of new techniques, that developed over time, that aren't explained on that page, but all the information is here on Vogons in various threads. …

The settings under "Extras" can make a lot of performance difference in some games, but if your settings are based on the defaults for each game then I doubt changing them will help. I don't think you'll see any improvement from a simple reencoding. More likely you'll see a loss of quality. You need to apply some sort of advanced upscaler. Also mkv and f4v are container formats. They don't determine the type of compression used.

VDos32 is pretty much dead now. It works only under old 32bit Windows. It's a shame because, although very restrictive in what games it supported, it could be wildly faster than dosbox.

I've run into problems with fog in psVoodoo that showed up in Redguard. I never managed to make psVoodoo work as well as OpenGlide in that respect. Is the game applying fog to polygons with points that differ by large amounts in z?

Thanks robertmo for drawing my attention to this. Very interesting. kjliew, I particularly enjoyed reading how you just wanted to play a particular game with accelerated 3D and sort of got carried away. Exactly how Glidos came about.

For Glidos, you could stick the GlidosID in a text file on a USB stick to transfer it to your work machine and then bring back the unlock code the same way. Vdos32 will be problematic, but that's rarely used these days because it works only on 32bit versions of Windows.
