Re: Strange speed issues in 0.65

Changing the cycles has no effect at all (unless I set it low enough that the game runs rediculously slow). Changing the core from dynamic to normal has sped things up to normal speed. Weird. The downside is that I end up with tearing until I go and fiddle with some game options (the "SVGA …

Re: DosBox and video recording

Have you seen any reports, besides mine, of the red and blue in the pallete being swapped? EDIT: Could this have something to do with how the video is decoded? If it's decoded as RGB24, some video hardware might get the red and blue mixed up.

Strange speed issues in 0.65

I've got some rather strange speed issues in DOSBox. Commander Keen 5 runs really slow, even though the CPU cycles are up pretty high at 30000 cycles (I don't dare put them any higher or otherwise It'll be too much for my machine). Stargunner, which is much more sophisticated (Protected Mode, VGA, …

Re: Recording to Video

I've got good news and bad news: Good news: after some mucking around with the latest K-Lite Codec Pack, I can finally play ZMBV AVI files. Bad news: The colours are messed up. It looks like the red and blue in the pallete are swapped. Any ideas about how to fix this?

Re: I'm looking for CM-32L ROM

in MT-32 General
If Roland isn't interested in their old hardware anymore, why don't they just simply make a CD containing all the ROMs for every piece of sound hardware they've ever made available for $5 and let the emulation community write the emulators? They get money for their ROMs, and we get the ROMs we need …

Re: Recording to Video

Well, I had no trouble installing the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack at any rate, and that doesn't appear to have any x64 version available. Could it be a bug in the codec supplied with DOSBox?

Re: Recording to Video

Hmmph. I went and installed the codec from the Start menu entry, and it has done nothing to allow me to play back the recorded video. Here's the report from Media Player Classic: Stream 0 AVI Splitter Media Type 0: -------------------------- AM_MEDIA_TYPE: majortype: MEDIATYPE_Video {73646976-0000- …

Re: DOSBox Plugin Wishlist

but then a plugin system is just trouble waiting to happen. Dosbox crashes or won't start up because of an old incompatible plugin (say the graphics card interface changes so much in between versions that a graphics card plugin just crashes Dosbox). You do make a valid point. I've had that kind of …

DOSBox Plugin Wishlist

This thread is intended to function the same way as the DOSBox Wishlist thread. Its purpose is to compile a list of possible plugins, as the wishlist thread says that for plugin support to be considered, a list of possible plugins needs to be compiled, so fire away with your ideas for plugins, …

x64 compile of DOSBox?

Just wondering if there are any x64 compiles of DOSBox available for download, particulary for Windows XP x64 Edition. Seeing as the official site has none, what about unofficial ones? Oh, and if somebody could point me to a free x64 C++ compiler for Windows, I'd be quite thankful.

Re: disney sound source/covox in stereo ?

This initial question sounds familiar. A number of DOS era demos used fairly simple circuits that you could build yourself for stereo sound via LPT. Some of them don't like the emulated Sound Blaster, or even a genuine SB16, and for any kind of decent sound, they rely on these circuits you can build …

Re: Audio scalers?

I've already got some C functions for linear, cosine, and cubic interpolation. I'm a bit stumped on what to do with cubic interpolation between points 0 and 1 and between (n-2) and (n-1), where n is the number of data points (numbered 0...(n-1)). In the case of interpolating between 0 and 1, I need …

Re: Audio scalers?

I'm afraid I don't know if any previous work in the area exists. I suppose in theory that it would be possible to convert a game's output to an intermediate data type, such a double-precision float, apply a one-dimensional version of the scaler algorithms that are used for graphics to boost the …

Re: Mounting multiple CDs

I don't see any need for it. it doesn't take much cpu power. it does take some memory though Out of curiosity, how much CPU power and memory is needed per additional drive? I know that some users will want to try and milk every last cycle out of their CPU and devote every last byte of memory to …

Audio scalers?

This may sound like an odd suggestion, but has anyone thought about making audio versions of the scalers that DOSBox has for video? An audio scaler would boost the bit-depth and samplerate of any game's digital audio up to whatever the output setting have been configured to use. Naturally, this …
