Re: The Settlers

I just use it. No special configuration neccessary, an average dosbox.conf works. Did you install the GUS drivers inside DOSBox? I just played with it a bit. I had to provide C:\ULTRASND dir under dosbox mounted c drive (I don't mont real C:\ as C:\ :)). I managed to run config file to use GM+GUS ( …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Ok, I'll make a 1024x1024 size letters and will post them here (with no textures or effects as I see GIMP can't handle all Photoshop's features). You can make any effect but export those font related layers as pngs (each layer as transparent png) and give me that pngs. I will try to interpolate …

Re: The Settlers

`Moe` wrote: Works here. And you are right, great music quality. What do you mean "Works here."? Did you run "The Settlers" using GUS emulation? How? What dosbox version? What config? C'mon I just extracted midi's from settlers and run on Timidity using GUS patch set. But I want to have this …

Re: DOSBox Icon

eobet: That's some lovely work with the old-timey monitor. Is that vector based? My only advice would be maybe to increase the saturation of the beige frame and decrease the ferocity of the scanlines (50% alpha for each alternate line is easier on the eyes). The color is just a transparent overlay, …

Re: DOSBox Icon

MegaBlast - I actually have a pretty new LCD monitor, so I know what you are talking about. Personally it doesn't look that bad to me, but I agree there is a chance it might look a little better if the large sized icons would be anti-aliased. I'm just not sure about that. I attached the PSD files …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Looking at the icon on my desktop, I got the feeling it might be a little pale. It's not the problem it's pale, but the letters and background are both "light" colors. This might causing that lack of sharpness issue. The 16x16 and 32x32 looks good to me (and these and 48x48 are the ones that really …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Hi again, Sorry for not posting those images you asked for yet. The scaled 256x256 letters with the anti-alias (to fit the 128x128 icon) does look smoother, but naturally less sharp. It's a question, I'm not sure which is better. I'll post the PSD files tomorrow, with all the layers and everything. …

Re: The Settlers

It runs succesfully for me using dosboxcvs-060125. However I'm unable to use Gravis Ultrasound as music card. The funky setup program tries to use hardware directly and it fails. it works only as soundblaster+general midi. But the quality of music on GUS was outstanding as I remember. I would love …

Re: DOSBox Icon

"DOSBOX" is not just a text. it's a program name and as such it won't be translated so the language argument doesn't hold here. And the way it's written create some kind of logo of this program, which many, including dosbox autor seem to like. An icon as any "art" is a subjective thing, but saying …

Re: DOSBox Icon

I just noticed the largest icon is 256x256! I could try to do something with this resolution file... 😀 So the effect I meant was something like on files below. 😈 These are transparent pngs with alpha channel, which you should see unless you're using Internet Explorer.

Re: DOSBox Icon

Thanks for liking it :) The letters' edges are not smooth on purpose, they are not anti-aliased in order to make them look as sharp as possible. If you could post or pm me the layer with letters in high res (256x256 at least, but prefferably 512x512 or 1024x1024) I could try to make them look both …

Re: DOSBox Icon

Finally, here it is! DOSBox Icon v6.1. http://www.vogons.org/files/dosboxicon-v6-presenting.png These are almost perfect. I would make letters to blend into background though. Right now the edges are not smooth. There was no alpha channel on the layer with letters only transparent color, and it can …
