My guess is that a 486er Overdrive is maximum, since it probably supports only 5V and 33MHz or 40MHz FSB.

It's the best mobo money can buy in my opinion so don't hesitate. So you know this 386er board: http://mail.lipsia.de/~enigma/neu/pics/386babyscreamer.jpg ? It even has already IDE/Floppy/Serial onboard and 8 full length ISA slots. I am not sure though if it supports 4 MB SIMMs.

SET DRIVE SPEED command is part of the ATAPI specification. So every drive that supports this command can be set to a certain speed with just a few port commands. Since ATA 4 the ATAPI specification was included in the ATA standard. See also 'packet commands'.

Using MS-DOS 6.22 or MS-DOS 7.10 with QEMM 8 or QEMM 9 works fine with MegaEM. I was using Qemm already in the days of MS-DOS 5. I can't see any advantage in using EMM386.
