Re: Monchr game

I'm not sure from what you wrote; is the keystroke buffer really the problem, or the keystroke repeat delay? If it's the repeat delay, you can use the utility program here to minimize the delay: http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=19947 For example, you'd run the utility program by typing " …

Re: Monchr game

Be sure to turn on NumLock and use the keypad for moving. The game's default delay is for a relatively fast system, no doubt because it was released in 2000. Increase cycles or use the game's /D parameter to reduces its delay to something that works better with lower cycles. For example: /D20 seems …

Re: 4x4 Off-Road Racing

Here's a quick and dirty workaround for the divide error; run the program in DOSBox before running the game. It prevents the game from crashing, even at 3000 cycles, but the time for repairs may not be as it should. The timer component seems to be for the time that YOU take on the repair screen, not …

Re: 4x4 Off-Road Racing

The crash is caused by an unhandled divide overflow. A (perhaps unexpectedly) large counter value is read from the PIT, leading to the overflow, so this game may make a good test subject for the timer rewrite. However, the problem seems to go away with 500 cycles, so it may just be a game bug.

Re: Armored moon

Well, you expressed it as "render: surface", so maybe you're using a frontend. In the conf file the setting is output=surface, so try changing it to ddraw, overlay, or opengl. The game seems fully playable and the audio does not distort on my system using DOSBox 0.74 with default settings except …

Re: Armored moon

Run the game with the cycles already set to the fixed amount; all other DOSBox settings at default. You might also try changing the output= setting to see if that helps. What are your system specs? The game needs fairly high cycles, and if your system isn't fast enough to sustain that then the sound …

Re: Armored moon

This 1998 game's Win9x installer makes me wonder how often it was played on real DOS. The distortion never gets as bad for me as in your recording, but I find that with cycles=35000 the sound is OK in the menu and in gameplay. Experiment with an amount of fixed cycles that works for you, but keep in …

Re: Crazy Bomber under DOSBox

Seems like it only does that when the music is digital. If you choose GS or FM music then the sfx on the Soundblaster causes no speaker noise. The game may be using the MiniMod library for playing MOD files, because other games from the same time period using that library have the identical issue: …

Re: Space Snake (1989) Crash on Firing

The game does not hang, and the firing sound seems more correct, with sufficiently low cycles and no FPU. Running the attached program in DOSBox will clear the coprocessor bit in the BIOS equipment list, after which the game should behave itself with 800 cycles or less. Turbo BASIC uses x87 …
