Re: Different Sound in Space Quest 2??

I think ScummVM is using the Tandy sound system for the AGI games; although it might be doing things to further enrich the sound... but I've never heard a real Tandy, so couldn't say for sure. Setting machine=tandy in the conf file is the easy way to get similar sound in DOSBox. If you don't want to …

Re: Can't get Tower of Souls to work

The game should support an SB16 because it's from 1995, but if an SB16 can't be chosen from the game's setup, you may need to change the card type in DOSBox to match what you select in the game's setup. In order to see if it all looks correct, please post the sound settings you're using in the …

Re: Can't get Tower of Souls to work

You don't need to specify a BLASTER variable in the autoexec section of the dosbox.conf file, DOSBox builds one out of the settings for the SB, so you should only change those settings (if necessary). If the game wants an autoexec.bat file for some reason, give it what it wants. Make one in the root …

Re: Can't get Tower of Souls to work

You might want to try a recent CVS build of DOSBox to see if some issue has been resolved that allows the game to be installed. http://builds.tharos-online.de/ Another option is to use a debug build of DOSBox. You can try to determine the specific issue yourself; or you can just use the debug build …

Re: Error with a program called menu manager

Yep, the error results from setting the attributes on the device with unsupported IOCTL function 1. I think BASIC typically does that when you open devices for I/O. Faking success of the function seems to allow programs like this one to work, but dunno what side-effects it could cause.

Re: Error with a program called menu manager

Menu Manager is a compiled BASIC program that apparently does an OPEN "NUL" command. DOSBox does not fully support using devices in the manner that some BASIC programs use them. You can read more about the issue in this thread, where QBix has provided an alternative build of DOSBox that might allow …

Re: Trying to get thisold program working

Well, I suggest you look/ask for help where you got the app that's forcing those extensions onto executables. I would not tolerate that kind of thing on my OS... there are plenty of active scanning programs and such that don't require files to be renamed. Maybe there is a way you can make …

Re: Trying to get thisold program working

A Google search reveals that the file extension was probably changed by ZoneAlarm for security purposes. I don't know if that means it scanned positive for some virus or trojan, or if it just does that regardless. At any rate, assuming what you have is a DOS program and not a Windows program, a .ZL9 …
