DOSBox works with OGG compressed audio files, but not MP3; there is some issue with the SDL_SOUND library. See this thread.

The CD detection issue for the Pro Pinball games may be due to something covered in this thread, particularly if you're using an image of the disc.

With DOSBox you're running Sierra's original AGI interpreter, with all of its limitations. ScummVM's AGI interpreter clearly has some additional refinements, but it's still going to be pretty much the same game either way.

I think ScummVM is using the Tandy sound system for the AGI games; although it might be doing things to further enrich the sound... but I've never heard a real Tandy, so couldn't say for sure. You don't need to specify a BLASTER variable in the autoexec section of the dosbox.conf file, DOSBox builds one out of the settings for the SB, so you should only change those settings (if necessary). You may have had some insight into what was meant by "but its not running my program". Alt-R to pop the Run menu is an easy alternative if remapping the shortcut seems like too much trouble. 😉

Putting aside forum etiquette for a moment, I suspect the OP is doing one of two things wrong: not installing TC properly inside DOSBox, or not setting the path correctly for everything it needs (e.g. "SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\TC\BIN\;C:\TC\INCLUDE\;C:\TC\LIB\")

MS-DOS 5 and 6 work exactly as DOSBox does in this regard, so I suppose you could say it is done by design. I think vars work from the prompt in the Windows command shell, but that is only DOS-like, it's not real DOS.

Yep, the error results from setting the attributes on the device with unsupported IOCTL function 1. I think BASIC typically does that when you open devices for I/O. Faking success of the function seems to allow programs like this one to work, but dunno what side-effects it could cause.

I guess it's not available now... perhaps it was a limited-time offer. 😀 The program will work if you run it under a real DOS booted in DOSBox (or other virtualization software for that matter).

Menu Manager is a compiled BASIC program that apparently does an OPEN "NUL" command. DOSBox does not fully support using devices in the manner that some BASIC programs use them. Aspect correction is effective on all available output methods on my Windows XP system with Nvidia gfx. Must be a driver limitation or something.

A Google search reveals that the file extension was probably changed by ZoneAlarm for security purposes.
