Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX (Commited r3804)

There is a difference in mode 6 between old-style/new-style CGA - IIRC it works out to about 15 degrees in hue? With the white palette, colors #4 and #8 differ most perceptibly (purplish and brown on old-style, red and green on new-style). How's this? Same CGA simulation as before (plus mode- …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX (Commited r3804)

Well, in current SVN the bricks have very blocky and prominent colored edges: Filename kq1_svn.png File size 6.65 KiB Views 1576 views With the new patch (adjusted the hue somewhat), the edges are much less pronounced. You can see the improvement elsewhere, like the lack of spurious 1-pixel lines …

Re: CGA Composite Mode under DOSBOX (Commited r3804)

Isn't it a matter of compromising/trading off, though? More pronounced, rainbow-like colored edges (with smoother filters), vs. vertical "ringing" artifacts around high-contrast edges (with sharper filtering - as seen in those non-DOSBox KQ shots)? At least, I'm unaware of anything that makes one …

Heh, it really is weird how similar those two games are. I've never played the England one, but I looked at Moby for other games by the same developer as Italy '90, and well - whaddya know. This one shouldn't be hard. Probably the first RPG I ever managed to enjoy: Filename wat.png File size 3.44 …

The smug derision doesn't help, either I'd say it's entirely appropriate, since it was prompted by how that line of conversation began: Sorry but that is bloody awful Apology accepted, we can't all move with the times. ...if you don't see how that's the mother of all smug derisions, your reading …

Just because it's the current trend doesn't mean it isn't a usability disaster. Those who assign value to "going with the flow" shouldn't be surprised when they end up in a sewer. ;) If they enjoy the warmth and squishiness, good for them, but chastising others when they point out the stench - now …

Yeah, plus icons should have no text whatsoever next to them, and every option must be hidden behind as many unnecessary clicks as possible. Also, I didn't make it blinding enough - light grey on bright white is clearly the wave of the future.
