remove that frontend it is too old install dosbox again and try again

try different output= every rate= to 44100 blocksize=1024 fized cycles

Start another thread in DOSBox Games/Apps. And don't use frontends if your game doesn't work. As it has nothing to do with d-fend

what is your dosbox version and where have you got it from? what is your Operating System? what are your PC specifications? what games have problems? post content of "DOSBox Status Window" enclose your dosbox's config file

Another question though. Colonization seemed to output sound effects through the MT-32, for instance the fight noise in combat, but will all games do this or do I need to route it back through the soundcard to get sound effects in other instances? you have to run game's setup to configure sound. …

Next dosbox version (will be soon) will work better with vista, it is not abandoned. It won't damage your laptop. adjusting cycles=adjusting speed dosbox with lpt patch is here http://home.arcor.de/h-a-l-9000/
