If the mainboard supports it, you can install an AMD X5-133 overclocked to 160 MHz. This will give you about 16 fps in Quake with the Voodoo at 512x384 resolution.

mine is UC4914-G using a um82c491f it detects l2 on a overdrive dx4 100 but not amd 5x86 133 they both have 16k L1 so I don't think its a larger L1 size the problem

The AMD was slower than Intel until they came up with 16 KB L1 cache as well. So take the one from Intel.
