I don't have a 5x86 but I seriously wouldn't go any higher than 4V. Maybe try 4V and see if you can cool it further?

5V is 50% overvoltage compared to 3.3V. That is quite a bit. I will let the more experienced members weight in but I don't think that it is a good idea

I have modified a VRM with a trim pot, so I can set the voltage to whatever I need.

I recall user retrogames running an Am5x86-ADW at 5V, 200 MHz. He ran all the 486 benchmarks on my list without any problem. He did have a large Pentium 4-style heatsink/fan on it though. Perhaps you could take it up to 4.5 V just to see if it buys you anything. I would really like to know more …

Turns out my VRM will need extra modification if I want voltages between 4 and 5V, so I'm probably going to back off. I don't want to feed this chip the full 5V. I might try to step it down to 172MHz to see what happens though.

No. It needs a socket 3 motherboard. It is essentially a 486

Thanks. That was what I thought as well. The thing that made me doubt, was that I remember it as a cpu wich were rated as an Pentium.

Absolutely not. You need a Socket 3 motherboard that supports 3.3V/3.45V or use an adapter. Some old 486 motherboards might only do 5V.

Thanks. That was what I thought as well. The thing that made me doubt, was that I remember it as a cpu wich were rated as an Pentium. The only processor on socket 3 that would be the same like a `pentium` (same achitecture) are the pentium overdrives.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_OverDrive

I would personally get a slot 3 board and make a build with it. I am slightly interested in it otherwise but I think the shipping would hardly make it worth it sending it to America

Is this meant to be a test of chips running strictly at or below 300mhz actual speed? Have you tried running the 400GP at 100x3?
