I think I figured out the USB transfers by disabling a couple of options in the BIOS. I think the CD though has to do with enabling DMA. Personally I would try to use a PCI-X GPU. I say this because I would try to avoid the limits of PCI at all costs. Sadly, they are expensive and obscure.

The Opteron 180 is a good chip. Iv got a system setup for my mom with an Opteron 170 and a 8600gt 256mb card combined with 3gb of DDR 333. It web browses like a freaking boss! My one suggestion is to combine it with a good SSD, it will fully saturate SATA 1.5 and you will be pretty dang happy :) …

I would also like to extend my appreciations! The Exclusively disable L1 cache is really unique. I don't think I was ever able to just change L1 cache on a mobile K6 before. It gives you that tiny bit of extra control if you wish for it 😀
